The UK have just managed to get MS to restructure the Activision deal. It's still the third largest tech sector in the world. So I wouldn't be so sure about them not having any influence.
The Tories are far too fiscally conservative to make a China style censorship system work. You need a happy and well rewarded load of staff to actually make the system function and the UK gov just aren't prepared to put in that kind of money.
