I don’t understand this endless talking about “decentralised” social media while the example given is one company owning the whole bunch and receiving VC investment. Doesn’t look very “decentralised” to me.
There will always be someone to explain why monopolies are actually good to users. They mostly have an agenda or like to suffer.
Take the abusive monopoly out of the equation and include no regulations and you get indeed the US situation.
Then you look at Europe and all of a sudden all theories about sane, monopolistic, business practices disappears in a puff of smoke.
You get 8000mbits fiber in France - to name just one - for 40€/month without a cap. And they make s***load of money.
Long story short, I don’t understand your argument.
