What what? Does this ruling hurt your butt?
Hollywood isn't IP intensive obviously.
They are more creative accounting intensive. After all, without their creative accounting, by this point they would not exist!
This raises the question, yet again, why we need laws like CISPA in the first place.
Because, when the only tool you have is a hammer ...
Best interests of the artists in their hearts my ass ...
If they had best interests of the artist at heart, they would just tell him they are unsure what they control, just go ahead and do it, and here is a signed document saying we relinquish our possession of whatever back to you.
They certainly had long enough to recoup whatever money they wanted from the film. Just let the creator do what he wants now.
If copyright holders want 3 strikes so bad, we should try it out on them first. After they send 3 takedowns that were found to be completely and undeniably false, like this one was, we revoke their privileges for sending takedowns. After that they have to mail in hand written letters signed by copyright holders. No printed or electronic forms allowed.
After all, stopping all electronic requests like that would support their 3 strikes idea of not completely cutting people off. We would just be slowing them down. They always tell us that is acceptable so it should be acceptable to put this plan into place, correct?
That might make sense if copyright laws were sane and simple, but instead they are complex, overly burdensome, and impossible to figure out. Therefore, frak copyright and I will ignore it.
Signed,
The American Public
The main reason they target TPB so much I believe is because of TPB's attitude about all of it. They are well within their own laws and they knew it. That was anyways until the RIAA made the Swedish courts bend and twist their laws into legals loops and had crony judges make up rules for those laws so that they could punish the owners. (
So most of the sites, even torrent ones, have pages less than 1% requested for removal. Isn't that semi related as an argument against the trolls who keep bragging (without proof or citation) that 95% of torrents are infringing? If it were really that large of a percent, wouldn't the takedowns against torrent sites have 95% (or some other number the trolls like to pull out of their bums) of the pages in the domain listed as takedown requested? I mean, c'mon, at least 10%, but not even a single percent for most.
No, maybe, good idea but wrong reasons? What are your thoughts guys?
Socialist, I do not think that word means what you think it means.
If you were to say fascist, well then sir, I would agree with you.
The RIAA or MPAA must have loaned Iran some lawyers somewhere along the way.
There is nothing more in this world I want from entertainment than a second season of Firefly.
That is the main question I came here to ask. The gov and RIAA seriously needs to learn that these kinds of actions are not tolerable. If there was an actual semblance of justice, all in ICE who simply took the RIAA's words for this would be fired immediately with large black marks on their records.
Please tell me that dajaz1 can sue them. I want to believe that justice is obtainable for us common folk.
But Twitter isn't just like talking about something that's already out there.
Its talking On The Internet!!!
You see, its cybertalking, and cybertalking is a threat these days. As we can prove, terrorists talk, and want to use technology to do so. Using this undeniable logic, cybertalking must be outlawed per the US, UK, France, ....
I would like to posit a suggestion here. I believe that the victim's families for the shooting should get together and sue the MPAA, RIAA, and all of their member organizations.
They would be suing for contributory murder. Nevermind that it isn't quite directly in the law. We can have the courts make it up as we go. I am sure that Breivik watched movies and listened to music at some point.
I actually used the multi console component cable because it was an easy way to split the audio and the video from all machines since my projector doesn't do audio.
A switchbox I suppose would have served much the same purpose, but as it is I function almost identically. The only drawback is that I lack the remote.
I am surprised that after all these years companies still try to force DRM on anything. It is very clearly a waste of their time and money, and only annoys customers.
Wow, that seems pretty lame to downgrade the quality. If I ever want lower quality I hook the PS2 back up (but usually its because I want to play one of the older better games, not because of quality).
Purposefully downgrading quality to your customer because they don't have the cable you want them to have is just asking to drive them away (as you well pointed out).
I am not sure why I hear this every so rarely, but component can be more than 720p. I have a multi tap style video game cable that outputs component. My xbox360 is hooked up to it and outputs 1080p. You can switch the xbox between 720p and 1080 and very clearly see a difference. Yes, 1080p component cables may cost you an extra dollar or two compared to 720p, and yes it would be super annoying to be an HBO customer and have them shovel this crap on you.
I am not defending their decision to add pointless DRM, or the decision to tell people they need to buy new gear (actually that is quite stupid and likely to drive customers away). I merely wanted to point out that some component cables are perfectly capable of relaying the 1080p we know and love.
Also, it is listed on the wikipedia page as well as supporting 1080p:

Re: Re: Hey Copyright Maximalists
Joe! How you been?
The first word in your response ('Nope') would almost make me think you were claiming to be a copyright maximalist as that is more who I was poking fun at. From your history I would actually not think of you as one. More so as somebody who puts forth an honest analysis of the law involved in and surrounding copyright issues.
I am glad to see you welcome the opinion =)
And I always welcome your well reasoned (even if I disagree with reasons) debate. Arms, legs, ships, and space stations above the AC ad homs I am used to seeing round these here parts of the interwebs.
