Don't know if I'm typical or not, but my library is more than 90% paperback; I only buy a hardcover book if I'm certain that I'll read it numerous times -- and a lot of those paperbacks come a nationally-known used book reseller, so my average price point is significantly south of even $10. The way I see it, a DRM-"protected" title has somewhere around the life expectancy of a paperback, given that it's not easily backed up and subject to reader-technology obsolescence, so why would I pay anything like a hardcover price for one? I can't see ebooks really taking off until there's a positive ROI for paperback buyers like myself.
...doesn't that make every newspaper, evening newscast, radio talk show, and many news-magazines and other news outlets simply parasites as well? Wouldn't they hate it if anyone said so?
