Why? Because for those whose financial standing places them above the need for such protections, said protections are an impediment to getting richer and/or more powerful. The ideals embodied in The Constitution were revolutionary, put in place by men with both vision and a desire to end the kind of tyranny and abuse that has always been the sequelae of concentrated power.
You are entitled to say anything you like from your own soapbox, but not to have a soapbox provided to you. So goes the adage, at least. I would agree but the law has some catching up to do. Today's soapbox, or more precisely the community "commons" on which it is placed, is extended to non-meat space; the Internet, SMS, etc. That the spectrum and physical media that "creates" this space are regulated utilities should ensure that our rights extend there just as they do in the town square. That they do not, and that there appears to be a marked trend away from that ideal.
Will Texas please stop embarrassing the rest of the country and finally act on their heretofore empty threats to secede from the United States? Please? Any time.

It's so simple. Demonstrate to a judge that you have probable cause and you'll get your warrant. That's how the system was set up and it has worked pretty damned well. Why, oh why, do we suddenly need to hide the actions of law enforcement and other government bodies from the judiciary?
Well now, see? There's your problem. You still believe that they're your representatives. They're not. Oh sure, you were allowed to vote for one of the candidates, but virtually all of them are already beholden to the people who wrote the big checks that got the on the ballot in the first place. In other words, big business and big money are the only real "constituents".
