  Actually The Branded Community is a slightly clever meme. It is an attempt to either PO the idiots at the heart of the Branded Community Suit or get Mike sued so he can be on All Things Considered again.
  
  I think the main goal is to lower the quality of the Inky to that of the Philadelphia Daily News.

  Spitzer at least did something useful. His challenges to corporations did things that needed to be done with the current management ignoring corporate crime.
  
  Cuomo shows his lack of understanding of the intertweb. I buy newsgroups separately now. I suspect that the comcast decision by the FCC would actually prevent any provider from blocking third party usenet.

  The problem with the RIAA fools is that these are the uncreative people who can do nothing better than complain about every penny they never could have gotten from pirates in the first place.
  
  The beauty of television and radio was that it was free advertising for their wares. The problem is that they started to view this advertising channel as a profit center. Profit centers are seen to be exploited to the last cent and damn all the sales that they don't get from the people who never hear the product.

  Ok they are suing M$ for being ubiquitous through rampant piracy and some sales.
  
  I guess this kinda makes sense if you are trying to sell your own operating system or web browser and the competition is as good as giving their wares away to achieve a kinda of market domination. They got sued by the EU for something like that.
  
  I suspect that the Chinese government will make this issue go away.

  Cattle Live in a Branded Community

  Given the prior art of hundreds of old Western Movies it is obvious that Cattle, Horses and other Livestock lived in Branded Communities before the turn of the last century.
  
  Just be glad current day HOAs haven't come across this idea sooner. Buy home in the Twin Pines estates and get a hot iron on your fannie. Move frequently and look like a burn victim.

  I would think that the logic here is to make sure that the communication frequencies are kept clear and do not interfere with weather satellites and spy satellites.
  
  Pretty clumsy implementation but given the current management not surprising.

  FWIW this appears to be another case of a corporation rejecting free advertising. Harper should give the teacher a book contract to collect Flat Stanley stories and pictures from all over the world.

  Even worse for Hasbro- Scrabbulous has sold a bunch of physical Scrabble sets for which Hasbro has pocketed the profits. Unfortunately they pulled that money out of their pockets handed it to lawyers who poisoned that well.
  
  It wasn't in the lawyers best interest to work out a sane and smart solution between the parties because that would have come to a solution quickly with a minimal number of billable hours.

  My daugther's class did the Flat Stanley project this year. The students color a Stanley and mail him to someone who takes him around. Stanley went all over the world. My in-laws took him to China.
  
  I live near DC and have seen Stanley getting his picture taken at Mount Vernon and all over the National Mall by various doting relatives.
  
  This is a great learning project. Perhaps if the website ownership was to split the rights for the proverbial dollar with the estate and then jointly find a good cause for the profits to benefit. Oh wait that is too reasonable where lawyers are involved.

  Tax the Journals 150% of all fees charged for this transfer and a $5000 charge for the the use of federally funded research in a for profit publication which will be automatically waved for the speedy and free transfer of articles to the data base.

  The Lawyer's open letter, linked to in the link, is a pretty effective piece on lawyering. If that doesn't dissuade the mynutrition side they deserve to lose what ever he can squeeze out of them.
