He pleaded guilty to the charges, and he admits he did it. That looks pretty cut & dried to me.
@Wally:"Saddam Hussein was not a true Muslim and his chosen denomination therein was used as a political front"
Saddam, like Joe Stalin, had limited ability to control the disruptive Muslims in his midst. The only thing they understand is terminal brute force, and democracy means nothing to them. For sure, there is a better solution somewhere, but it hasn't emerged yet. The Muslims in Russia are still waging chaos and terror, and the Sunnis in Iraq are doing likewise. They don't do democracy. For now, an iron fist will have to do. Their TV stations must be smashed, and their mullahs put in chains. That's the best we can ever hope for.
I never quite understand the volume of American hysteria over nuclear power. The problem of nuclear waste & weapons arises from the sale & use of cheap reactors. The Canadian CANDU reactors solve all the above problems, but they cost a little more. If a country is too cheap to include a percentage of CANDU reactors in their inventory, they'll have a nuclear waste disposal problem. Most of the noise is coming from marketing hysteria. It's a non-problem.
I feel so retarded reading this stuff because I'm still watching old Elvis Presley movies on VHS. Sometimes I watch Region 2 or 4 DVD movies on a laptop, but that's about as exciting as it gets around my house.
Why am I not surprised when the Muslims shut down the internet? They've been doing this sort of thing for centuries, first banning deviant speech, then Christian & Jewish scrolls, then books, then satellite dishes. I'm surprised that they don't ban Dodge Caravans because they have a cross on the grill. No wonder Muslim nations are so poor and backward!
btrussell, I've also paid the copyright tax (federal copyright levy) on each blank CD in my collection. They'll likely have to attempt to separate my legal, tax-paid downloads from everything else in my collection. Good luck with that!
@AC:"Time to pay up freeloaders."
Wait a minute. Like most Canadians, I paid the copyright levy (tax) on blank CDs and that gives every one of us permission to download. So you're saying we're freeloaders? How do you figure that?
@silverscarcat:". . . you ALMOST made sense."
Who's "you" Who are you talking to?
This is an interesting rant. But who are you talking to?
Who cares? Did you understand what Canada does? They protect the downloader from harassment by the music industry. You can quibble about the finer points if you like, but if it saves your clueless butt from being sued by the recording companies, you should be thankful.
I wish printers/copiers were included! In Canada, cassettes & CDs are taxed which allows for free downloading of music. If DVDs/hard-drives were taxed, we could download movies freely. If printers/copiers were taxed, we could copy books freely. It's not perfect, but it spares us from random shakedowns and takedowns. Count me as a tax supporter - I really like media taxes and I'd like to see more of them.
Exactly, Jupiter! Canada has a similar CD tax that permits unrestricted music downloading. It's way excellent. The revenue gets divided up amongst the rights holders. We can download all the music we want from anywhere we choose. What's not to like about that? It's not perfect, but it's close to a good solution. At the very least, it protects citizens from shakedowns and takedowns.
No, because I want to see those idiots to get what they deserve.
"filthy little traitor", "a bullet in the brain"? Where'd that come from?
Manning had no idea if it was "illegal activity". He was completely clueless about the legality of what he was seeing and what he was doing.
This is the point at which Manning should have hired a lawyer.
The commies will always be "the reds". Their flags are always red, and they self-identify as reds. Everywhere in the world, Conservative parties are blue, as in "blue blooded". So, yes, it is odd that the Republicans label themselves as the red party.
"I hope Skype gets fined into oblivion for breaking the law"
And which law would that be?
"If Judge Fogel can't bring himself to apply an unfair circuit precedent, then he should not try to dodge the issue by passing the buck to a jury"
Why not? This is a perfectly good way to get some additional focus on an issue that needs attention. Good for Judge Fogel!

He sounds like another total fuckwit. I love it when these guys get cuffed and tossed into the paddy wagon. Who cares what happens to him afterward.
