Thank goodness it just "free agent" planets floating around the universe and not a moon that has been blasted from obrit and through space from a 'nuclear' event on the moon's surface.

I would hate to see the weekly misadventures of "free agent" MOON floating around the universe.

  • DailyDirt: Newspapers? Books? We Don't Need Those Where We're Going…

I wish I had booked mark the link about the economic analysis of the newspaper giving up the print edition and provide all its customers with a basic e-reader that updated to the latest edition every morning via something like the whisper net. The economic cost saving where there only if they could guarantee the recipients of the new e-newspaper reader would stay a customer for 3-5 years. 3 years being the break even point with the life expectancy of the e-newspaper being 5 years. I could see how it would be a tremendous risk for a current newspaper give up its printing press, delivery boys, etc. and just gamble on the automatic electronic distribution. I suspect some start up will attempt it, maybe even a telco in alliance with an enewspaper reader, or most likely Amazon will just offer the kindle for free if you agree to sign a 5 year deal to newspaper subscription (in which case I would be the first in line to subscribe).

What a waste of money... the Anti-Terrorist agency spending ad money for a civil issue and interest group.

The tax payers should be outraged at organized crime (RIAA/MPAA) spending their tax dollars on using terrorism to fight piracy.

  • Congress Debating If Putting A Fake Name On Facebook Should Be A Felony

If it means throwing some of yappy obsessive facebook 'friends' in jail for a couple of years I am in support of it.

Just think we could fill the prison with all these real world friendless facebook users and they can engage in some real social networking behind bars. Jails would become some of the friendliest and safest places around!

Also think now the politicians facebook pages will have to be run by the politicians themselves rather than handed over to office staff.

I see this as a win-win. BTW: can I legally change my name to Anonymous Coward now?

  • Thou Shalt Not Sue Sony

    Jimr ( profile ), 16 Sep, 2011 @ 10:23am

There are certain consumer rights that you should not be able to sign away in a TOS agreement.

What if the minor is the recipient of the Sony product? The minor are not of legal age to consent to a binding legal document?

What if some asshat at Sony added in to the TOS that 10% of your gross income is forfeited to Sony?

He just happen to use a tool, the internet, to harass the families and promote harassment.

  • Canada Plans To Re-Introduce Bad Copyright Plan, With Damaging Digital Locks Provisions, With No Additional Consultation

Now that the 'Harper Government' has a majority they plan on doing what ever the hell they feel like.

They are spending money left and right will little or no oversight. Harper has made it clear is and his government are up for sale to the highest bidder, public citizens need not attempt anything. It is a government of Harper know best (as determined by the highest briber), even if goes against any and all proven scientific doctrine.

I do not know how he got a majority government as I do not know a single person who will admit voting for their party.

  • How Much Does A Band Make From Various Music Platforms?

    Jimr ( profile ), 13 Sep, 2011 @ 06:28am

How can I mark this article as insightful?

I always love this kind of break down so we can start to see the real potential economic impact of piracy on the artist.

Maybe I should buy more vinyl to support the artists.

  • Apple Still Seems To Think That Only It Could Possibly Have An Apple Shaped Logo

    Jimr ( profile ), 09 Sep, 2011 @ 02:12pm

How about: Apple sues Kellogg over the 'apple' taste in the fruit loops. And Kellogg can counter sue apple for the apple looking like the toucan sam - yep I think they are close enough.

Someone needs a kick to the nuts. I am look at lawyers who target people/origination that find it cheaper to settle than pay the cost defend themselves from such obviously false claims. These logo's do not even closely resemble each other even after drink a 40 of whiskey.

MAI should petition the bar association to disbar the lawyers who are obviously engaged exploiting the legal system in this extortion plot.

  • Wasn't The PATRIOT Act Supposed To Be About Stopping Terrorism?

    Jimr ( profile ), 08 Sep, 2011 @ 12:26pm

Any act that is un-american, as determine by a secret council, is obviously terrorist in nature and to question such policies is a sure fire sign that you are a terrorist or a supporter of terrorist.

Based large on the same principle tests to see if you are a witch. We drown, burn, etc you. If you are not a witch then you shall simply die (but your soul will be saved) and if you do not die then you must be a witch.

The witch hunting standards have just been updated and the Patriot act 'helps' .

  • DailyDirt: Back To School Time…

    Jimr ( profile ), 08 Sep, 2011 @ 06:22am

In Canada the teachers seem to be better off then the horror stories I hear in the US. A friend of mine, who is a teacher in Canada, now makes nearly 100K a year as a teacher in a smaller center with a lower cost of living.

They have 197 school days and he works at least 10 hours each of those days. So in the end he works about the same as a typical job with the bonus of being able to 'bank' that extra time and get two months off in the summer and nearly two weeks at Christmas.

At times I wish was a teacher but then as stated earlier you have to deal with crap from overly delusional parents.

  • Is Destroying A Hard Drive On A Work Issued Computer The Equivalent Of Hacking Or Fraud?

    Jimr ( profile ), 06 Sep, 2011 @ 08:00am

When I returned my company issued laptop I cleaned the hard drive and re-formatted it using the Military format clearer (Does about 100 cycles of filling the hard drives with random one and zero and reformat it).

Replacing the hard drive is not that simple - it could have been a more expensive enterprise class hard drive or some other special hard drive. Also depending on how this guy destroyed the hard drive - is there a certificate from an authorized hardware disposal or did he sell the hard drive?

I am not a fear factor contestant

Have you ever smelled a Sun-dried squid body?

Just reading dried squid body brings back some really bad smell memories from time over seas... it was a local acquired taste and they sold it from carts. I think their favorite spot was under my window on extremely hot days.

I doubt that I could put my lips to something that smells like decaying fish and drink the putrid contents.

  • UK Government Tried To Make It Harder To Appeal Three Strikes Accusations

    Jimr ( profile ), 02 Sep, 2011 @ 07:51am

Yes you are more than welcome to appeal as long as you do not try to appeal.

Appealing is not part of the appeal process. Didn't you get the memo?
