Wowza an article about go! I've been waiting for good go programs for a long time. You know, the interesting thing about computers being better at poker than go, is that poker is a game of incomplete information (which you wouldn't think computers would be as good at) while go is a game of perfect information - both players have complete knowledge of the current state of the game (where all the pieces are, etc). That type of game is much more in the computers' wheelhouse.
dumping both the pageants and his Apprentice series
Actually, the Apprentice series will continue on NBC, licensed through Mark Burnett's production company, only with a different host (TBA). NBC stated this in their initial release
Weird that she mentions that companies protect their trade secrets - COMPANIES protect them, the government DOESN'T! If you successfully acquire the recipe for Coca-Cola and distribute it, you haven't committed a crime. That's why they guard those secrets so assiduously - the law doesn't do it for them. They still seem to be doing ok, though...
as customers who might have games in their libraries that they never thought they could get a refund on were suddenly allowed to get one
This doesn't make any sense, given that you note:
Keep in mind that games can't be refunded after more than 14 days after purchase
So anybody that has games they don't play in their library can't, in fact, get a refund on them all of a sudden (unless they bought those games in the last two weeks)
"if you're an anti-abortion activist, or if you display political paraphernalia supporting a third-party candidate or [Ron Paul], if you possess subversive literature, you very well might be a member of a domestic paramilitary group"
Man, I really prefer Jeff Foxworthy's older stuff, this is just desperate...
" Montenegro could have made this statement about any group (politicians, priests, parents, kids, school administrators, lawyers, the media), but he chose to highlight this aspect of policing"
Actually, that seems like it would be somewhat hard to do given a 7-8 character limit and a dearth of short synonyms for those professions (POLSLIE? PRSTSLIE? Not exactly decipherable... OK, KIDSLIE and LWYRSLIE are pretty good)
One thing I was never clear on: Was the CIA program actually fake, ie were there fake vaccines given out? Or was it a program that was in fact delivering legitimate vaccines, but keeping an eye out for their target's DNA?
I agree, what they are obviously saying is "we're taking these ridiculous positions as a bargaining ploy, but the public is too stupid to understand that"
How can somebody tell if a search for keywords "child porn," (for example) is someone looking for child porn, or is someone researching child porn. For blog posts, policy papers, or anti-pedophilia advocacy, for example.
Are we supposed to always append "for research" to all of our searches now? Make sure to Google "child porn statistics," "how to build a nuclear bomb for research," and "locations of terrorist training camps because I'm just curious and maybe I want to know what parts of the world to avoid and jeez just get off my back already"

So they narrowly avoided free positive publicity, brand awareness, and boosted toy sales.
They really shot themselves in the hoof

Did Carl Sagan really sue someone for calling him a butt-head? That's too bad, if true (Maybe his TV network sued on his behalf...?)
This makes me want to shoup
Nokia
I bet he also carries those Nokias for their ability to stop AP rifle rounds
?
If the internet is not the answer, then what wasn't the question?
