Regional newspapers sold newspapers locally, so to get New York Times news they copied it and then the NYT could do the same for whatever other regions. But everyone bought locally so all boats rose and the product got better. But the internet meant the big papers, like the NYT, got the sales while regional reporters were still doing that work, that broke the system down. The "Search Engine" Podcast had Ezra Klein on and he summed it up pretty well. It's a two parter, Part 1 https://www.searchengine.show/listen/search-engine-1/how-do-we-survive-the-media-apocalypse, Part 2 https://www.searchengine.show/listen/search-engine-1/how-do-we-survive-the-media-apocalypse-part-2, I honestly don't remember which one it was.
Totally not saying I want the US or any country to be China but it seems saying, "China controls content on its internet" and "Content Moderation can't scale and here are some myths related to it" are at odds. Is it a matter of liability is on the platform side? Liability in this sense meaning fear of the government... Just wondering really, this may not be a unique thought at all but just occurred to me the clash in these two beliefs.
I'm probably just ignorant on the subject but how is commerce supposed to work in a world where, effectively, all information is public to some entity? In addition, how about between two financial institutions. Seems like it would break down things in a very fundamental way in for Wall Street.
