  And it is a big issue. Sadly, this is what you get when you have a "lesser of two evils" mentality. The #resistance people think that they are voting for truth and justice by opposing Trump, then they vote for people like this who don't even try to hide the fact of their corruption. There is little to no outcry because the only alternative is to vote for a third party that isn't corrupt, and people won't do that.

  People are killed every day, and it is tragic, every time. What about those people, who aren't killed in so-called mass shootings? Using your reasoning, no one can ever have political rallies. What is the line? How many people have to die in a place at a time for it to be inappropriate? Does it count if it is in another country? I don't think you have thought your position through, because it doesn't make sense. I am not defending Trump, and the thought of being at a rally and hearing the idiots cheer as he spouts inane bullshit is not pleasant, but there is nothing wrong with holding a rally after a a traumatic event. People have to continue to live; postponing a rally doesn't do a single thing to help stop violence.

  The problem is that you are wrong. What do you mean the US government "cannot", and does not, tell private firms what to say? Like there is a constitutional prohibition? Simply reading Techdirt would give numerous counterexamples of government at all levels engaging in constitutional violations. Your personal experience is irrelevant. The fact is that the government tells private firms what to say and do, every single day, whether directly or indirectly, by fiat or by suggestion, and for you to suggest otherwise is to be embarrassingly naive or deliberately deceptive. The job of an intelligence agency is to lie. They wouldn't be good at what they do otherwise. Please stop making yourself look silly. Bloomberg might be full of crap, but you can't know because the US and UK governments have declared it to be so.

  Except of course that it is well established law the chilling effects of potential prosecution are violations themselves. There is no basis to investigate in the first place because political bias is, by definition, protected, and therefore any investigation can only exist to intimidate or threaten, which is forbidden.

  If a U.S. court attempted to enforce a French judgement against Google in America, that would violate the First Amendment. Mike is rationally inferring that the EU countries would file claims in U.S. courts if the proposed standard is accepted in EU courts, and as regular readers of Techdirt know, there are some crappy judges in the U.S. that would comply.
