For a while I have been saying that when big content gets its way someone will die. A school will have its internet access cut off and the IP phone system will not work leading to a bunch of dead children. A man will die when the police kick in his door after the neighbor downloads off his open WiFi.
In this case there is a possibility that he will die in custody. Him getting raped and murdered would be a diplomatic nightmare for the US. All because he had links to other sites.
>>-----------------------------> wow, that was a really long stretch. Here is another.
An alien race picks up earths TV stations and records them. The little gray guy then sends it to his friend. Infringing or not?
We should be realizing that once it is broadcast, it is in the public domain.
>>-----------------------------> wow, that was a really long stretch.
You got it wrong. Maybe we should be forcing the government to stop picking winners and losers. The whole buy yourself a monopoly thing has to end.
I have been saying that here for a couple years. It is fun to be right ... and it sucks to be wrong, I still owe people a newspaper subscription.
Doug, I will pay you in electrons for any music you record and publish. Now, the going rate for an individual electron is effectively NIL. So I owe you how much??
Ignore him he is a confused gay guy.
Today in the news ...
1-1-2015 - Facebook, Google+, and LinkedIn shut down by order of the US government.
1-2-2015 - Washington burns to the ground. Rioters claim a lack of Farmville made them do it.
Ninja, Andrew ... Big Ole Grin ... you guys actually get it.
The thing you should realize is, unlike the town square, the internet is global. It accelerates things along at a much greater rate than in the past. It shortens the length of time it takes for things to reach a boiling point.
What these EU politicians fail to realize is that an ad campaign, or any bull shit attempts at engaging social networks will not work. It will be seen through. They will spend their time writing the perfect press release, only to have people mock it.
This is the same mistake that was made all over the middle east. In the US I am hoping it goes differently and we just vote the F%^kers out.
blah blah blah ... what you said ... and they should be able to do this after the fact.
Yes, and with no notice, with out any sort of review, they should be allowed to shut down any company they wish. I wonder what happens when the CEO dislikes corn ...
can't get cell signal, but I can download a book on the kindle... WTF is up with that?
Actually, just send them a copy of a micro economics text book. That and the sherman act
It could actually be called a multiple pyramid scheme. Each pyramid passes a portion of the profits to the next after taking its own cut, in the end nothing is left for the artist. Much of this is done contractually, much more is done because there is no way to prove who owns what copyright and they can get away with it.
Weird thought, is it possible to file something like a Freedom of Information Act request with Google.
Personally, I would go for a bill that prevents the government from rushing bills through. That require public scrutiny after each round of editing. That allows the public to vote laws into non-existence before they are implemented. That prevents additions after the law has been approved by the public. That requires an analysis to see if the bill is actually necessary.
DARPA did not invent the internet. They funded it there is a huge difference.
I was going to make a similar argument. We need to stop this whole "rush this law through so you can see whats in it" thing that has become all the rage in politics recently.
Funny, I missed it also. Maybe next time he will post in all CAPS....
She added: "It's disgusting. Next time it may be your son. I urge everyone who cares about unfair extradition to write to their MP and insist this disreputable law is changed."
I so love quotes like this.
