On the contrary, there is a huge risk to your credibility if you're wrong. Especially if you're not a traditional player with decades of history and an existing reputation to fall back on.
The problem with this has always been that telcos were exempt. So the apartrment complex I live in has AT&T DSL/U-Verse and nothing else. But what amazes me is the number of my neighbors, who hate AT&T and are willing to forego internet/TV because of it. Or in my case, pay more to use a 3G modem. Wimax can't come soon enough.
I think its a bit too soon to discount Palm. The successof an OS is dependant on more factors than the size of the developer community. Though they really do need to get devices out for other carriers. I also want them to do well so there's a little more competition in the market.
I say this as a person who's been using a G1 for the last year, but I might switch if a Web OS phone were to come to T-Mobile. It's not that anything is wrong with Android, but I actually think I might like something where the manufacturer has a bit more control over hardware/software integration. Apple goes to far, and Android always faces the threat of forks due to disparate hardware specs.
English is a malleable and ever-evolving language. However, I think the following Penny Arcade comic strip sums up my opinion on "creative" grammar quite succinctly.
I find the standards of this "hyperconnected" moniker a little odd. Why not classify the way these devices are used? For example, I usually read Techdirt using Opera Mini on a Samsung D820 non-smartphone. This device is always on, and always on my person (or next to my bed when I'm asleep). So why does someone with more devices get more connectivity points? I'll only accept that they're more connected than myself if they're using all seven at once. Personally, I've been using the term "perpetually connected" when describing my internet usage characteristics.
One thing that never seems to come up in all the current patent hubub is that the human genome is partially patented. You, I and thousands of other living things are in part or in whole owned by corporations and the universities they fund to do research. Screw process patents, I want to know why "discovering" the genes that make up the genetic code of diseases can be used to halt non-licensed research on them.
I'm going to ignore the above flame war above and state that in my opinion this shouldn't be allowed anyway because they are "disturbing the peace" by playing the sound outside their establishments. If I can call the police to stop my neighbor's wild party at 2 AM, I can call them to stop this nonsense. If it's inside their store, fine, I won't shop there since I can hear it and it feels like someone using a dental drill in my ear canal. Basically, I think I should have a right to walk down the street without having my sense of hearing molested by someone so scared of young people that they've put some sadistic auricular torture device outside their place of business.
I grew up in Indianapolis and have been to his grave. Interestingly enough, people have repeatedly defaced his father's gravestone while leaving his relatively untouched. Why? Presumably because the criminal's name is John Dillinger Jr., and he's buried right next to his father, John Dillinger.
Specifically, when we got a second phone line at my parents house a few years ago we started to get some REALLY weird phone calls for about seven different people including a minister. The most annoying violator was an unidentified Walgreen's that would call and say that someone's prescription was ready...somewhere. This took months to resolve since you have to be the account holder, and cancel at the location where you get your prescriptions filled. Eventually I was talking to the corporate headquarters and at some point the calls stopped coming. In our case, we stopped going to Walgreen's. We could use it's services, they were the closest, but there are other options available. Her case is identical. All she has to do is cancel her account and use one of the competing services. It's that simple, just vote with your advertising clicks instead of your dollars.
