FWIW, I have noticed that Flock's cameras have gone up at all of the entrances/exits of the parking lot of my local Lowe's home improvement store as well as the country club next to my neighborhood. Not sure if they have brokered deals with the local police, but from the looks of this discussion on Reddit, it must have. Nonetheless, a lot of their cameras have definitely been popping up on private property.
A cursory viewing of the Indy Week story and Wikipedia seems to indicate that only the state is wrong…. It’s North Carolina, not Indiana. While as a native Hoosier I would not be surprised if this kind of fuckery took place in my home state, I knew immediately that Durham had been misplaced. I agree the research on this one was a little sloppy…. It should have been immediately apparent to anyone doing the slightest amount of fact checking this was all taking place in North Carolina.
How is this chalk mark meaningfully different than (for example) requiring a parked vehicle to display a valid proof-of-payment on the automobile dash?
Requiring the placement of a parking receipt on the dash is compelled speech, thus a violation of the First Amendment.
Perhaps DirectTV is saying "OK, maybe you don't owe us this fee. But we have 10,000 fees. Do you really want us to go back to Dallas and find a fee you do owe us?"
Just because you can run around setting up a bunch of Stingrays it doesn't mean you know how to build a network.
But seriously, the US government has been trying to build a nationwide LTE network for first responders (FirstNet) for the better part of ten years and have little to show for it except an award to AT&T, made last year. How the heck are the heck are they going to build a commercial network?
I wonder if Mr. Christ tried video recording the ensuing interaction with the cops when the local market president tried shutting down his free food giveaway / protest. Was recording a peace officer legal in Galilee, or was that considered wiretapping?
Giving away lemonade right in front of a market full of places selling beverages? Isn't that grounds to be charged with "Felony Interference of a Business Model?"
