Negativland has been mashing up everything for a couple decades now and have come out of it slightly beat up but still going strong...i wonder though how much girl talk will put their money where their mouth is and fight for fair use... guess we shall see...

I seriously needed to fly to LA to visit a sick relative but my funds are very limited. When I saw this ad I realized that by simply shedding a few pounds I could afford it so I called my relatives and told them I would be on my way soon. Imagine the horror and pain I felt when I realized this company was fake! And now my relative has passed away and I was unable to be there to say goodbye and all because of this "funny" ad. If it had not been for that ad I would have borrowed the money from somewhere, maybe from my dealer he is ok with loaning me a few dollars every now and then. This was just wrong and I hope they suffer in under the full weight of our legal system!
@Twinrova
ok what about the computer companies? they make the machines that can access google, without a computer google is worthless. so i guess they are responsible and should build something into their firmware? car companies should design their cars to be unable to run people over as well as sidewalk companies make sidewalks you can't drive on??? cause that makes it so easy to just drive along down them right.. come on.. google isn't 100% or 10% responsible for this any more so than whoever made his computer or the parts in it. anything can be used incorrectly or illegally.
why should a search engine display results for those kinds of searches? for the same reason you want a book published. if you search for terms like that you will find far more research results, support groups, studies, news, etc etc. the search engine and the computer doesn't know what the image result is either, and nor should it really have to, but i could easily photoshop an image of a post-it note with the words No More Child Pornography on it as a logo for a company and label it nochildporn.jpg or something. (yeah that is a bad logo and poor naming scheme) the computer doesn't look at the image the way we do.
anyway, thats a long reply considering i am really hoping you are just playing devils advocate.
yeah i know its not a good analogy to the entire case here, it was only to serve the purpose to say that it doesn't always matter what your intentions are...thats it. its not to draw anymore of a parallel to any of the case. but saying she didn't mean for the girl to kill herself is doesn't matter.
is the mother being railroaded with these charges? yeah, of course, but frankly i don't care. lots of people get screwed over everyday in our system and at least this lady deserves some type of punishment. (as i mentioned, being a good parent is NOT contacting a minor as an underage boy, initiating an "intimate" relationship with them to see why she isn't friends with her daughter anymore and then knowing she is emotionally unstable harassing her over and over again) does this mother deserve the max that she is facing here? i don't know, probably not. will this draw attention to this potential lack of being able to prosecute similar cases? probably so and in that maybe something will be done. are we going to start seeing the defense of, "my client was cybering with that minor to harass them your honor which is not prosecutable" probably not...but man that would be funny.
just wondering if anybody else is thinking of this with the suicide removed from it... i mean there is an adult woman who fakes an account with the intention to seek our a minor and make that minor fall in love with them and sends them explicit messages... we sure convict that...
as for her not intending for meg to kill herself, yeah so what? i'm sure the drunk driver who hit and killed my friends sister didn't intend to kill her either. he was just trying to get home. and while this "prank" (a light term for it if you ask me but then i've read alot about this case) might not have been meant to make her commit suicide, it was meant to harass her, find out what she might be saying about the woman's daughter, and to cause her distress. and since we are handing out be involved parenting advice here, being a good parent is not going to this length just because your daughter isn't best friends with someone anymore...
am i the only one that has wondered why we don't build cars similar to the way nascar and indycars are built...
i would love to see a highway for bikes, dare i say that would be a breath of fresh air?
so i'm allowed to use the internet and become one of a zillion blogs or podcasts..but i have to put up with several companies owning most other media outlets? BS. not to mention most people do not get immediate news on their area from the internet. they get it from tv and radio. when we had a tornado hit the area you could immediately tell which stations were piped in pre-programed stations...they were the ones showing cartoons or playing led zeppelin instead of shelter locations/closed streets/further storm warnings.
then there is a speech issue of course, as in, a large company is allowed a station broadcast to spill out whatever messages it wants but i'm not allowed to but i've been thrown the internet bone so its ok? well as the slogans go..

RADIO IS MY BOMB
i just don't understand how it can be so difficult to make a machine that adds one. also most of these companies also make atm machines, which do in my estimate, far more difficult tasks. something isn't right...if our atm's made this many mistakes nobody would use them, there would be riots in the streets...
and so these adolescent males videos are somehow different and a more negative influence than all the military videos on youtube....
i've run my wifi connection at home under the name "open and free" just so my neighbors know i don't care. is my router itself locked down? you better believe it...but the connection itself isn't...course i came at this from a micro-power broadcasting standpoint, i want the airwaves free, so what right do i have to then lock down my wifi signal? interestingly several other neighbors seemed to have followed suit on their own, and there are now several other connections a few doors down called "open" and "free to use."
if your parenting skills suggest to you that it is a good idea and needed to get online and pretend to be a 16 year old boy and to pull some friends and coworkers into doing it with you and then cower away or claim you didn't send "mean messages" when a death results from it....well then you should be able to handle some harassment yourself and deserve it
why is it that these companies can build a reliable atm machine but can't seem to build one that adds one vote and prints proof that it did? i can withdraw, deposit, get a statement, set my language prefs, transfer funds etc etc but for some reason i can not trust a machine to add my one vote to someone?!?!?! maybe i'm missing something and adding up votes is more complicated than banking but i don't think so.
open and free
its nice to see so many other people leaving their network open for others to use. was starting to think i was the only one. i tend to approach it from a "what right do i have to claim and lock down the air" sort of view...after all i shout down the FCC every chance i get. honestly if you don't want to share your broadband, don't broadcast it. they do still make cables.
