Revoking uses completely different technology than issuing certs, and the system fundamentally doesn't scale well for revocations. Startcom is providing economic incentive to not abuse the revocation process beyond its ability to scale. Complain all you want about how the system SHOULD work, that's doesn't change how it does work. Even with the paid revocations, the pricing model there is still far better than anywhere else for me. I'm willing to do the right thing and revoke certs even though it costs me money. All the whining here isn't about doing the right thing, it's about having someone else subsidize site owners for doing so. Annoying? yes. Showstopper? no.
