    Coordination

Any other sites coordinating their blackouts with Reddit? I think to make the biggest impact possible, several sites need to go down all at once: Google, Facebook, Reddit, 4Chan, etc.

So they won't show a suspected murder's picture but have no issue with a suspected pedophile?

Can anyone explain to me why it is acceptable to post a guy's photo all over the news proclaiming him to be a suspected pedophile but don't publish a suspected murderer's photo? Either way the suspect's life is ruined even if proven innocent/not guilty. Is there a reason why the identity of both parties in a legal case aren't just held until after the outcome of the trial?

    Admit it...

They killed themselves cause they were French. Know I would...

    Re:

    @ scote

    Agreed!

Masnick conveniently forgot the part of the story where there were no cones or other safety measures that are required to be there by law. Yes, the girl was a fool for falling into the sewer because she wasn't paying attention and its more than likely she still would have walked right on by the safety warnings if they were there, but since they were not there will be some liability issues for the city.

Im not sure if she should get much more than her hospital bills paid for since she was the idiot who was texting/walking and not paying attention.

What the customers want my ass...

What the customers want is faster speed, cheaper prices and unlimited usage; not these data caps that TWC are pushing especially in this economy. People want more bang for their buck.

How will people know if they are going over the cap, Time Warner? Im sure you think that people will just keep track of that themselves right? It wont be hard to go over these caps either. If you download songs, stream Netflix or HD content, upload photos, play games online (PC or console) or just download a massive amount of porn you will go over easily. People dont seem to realize how much data they pass back and forth on the web and TWC is betting on that to increase their revenue.

    Right on

This is just my two cents...

My older brother is a band instructor. He has been trying to find a way to get kids interested in music again and playing instruments. He said that since Guitar Hero and Rock Band have come out, he has had quite a few kids come in to learn to play the guitar, drums, etc.

My brother actually has a TV and PS3 in his class room that has Guitar Hero and Rock Band. The school bought it for him since they saw that kids were interested in music again when they played this. Once a month, he invites non band members to come down to his classroom and see the instruments, play with them and enjoy a little Guitar Hero. It has been an overwhelming success! Over 20 new kids into band just this first semester, with more planning on joining.

Anything that can be used to get someone interested (note how I didnt just say kids) in music is never a bad thing. Yes, guitar hero and rock band may not be teaching them how to actually play a real guitar, but it gets the interested. The game is meant to be fun, nothing else.

Is this site even relevant anymore?

With sites like Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn, is this site even relevant anymore? I was able to get back in touch with my classmates (the ones I liked anyway) though facebook and it was easy, and more importantly, free.

    Re: Re: Let's outlaw cameras

"Cure them if possible. Thats the way to stop it."

The only way to "cure" them is to put them into the ground. I used to live next door to a "reformed and cured" child molester. He had sex with a 15 year old and did some jail time. I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt since he had gone through all the classes and registered. Not one month after he got out he had raped his 10 year old niece. When asked why he did it? He replied that he was horny and that she was available.

Tell me how you cure that?

    But think of the children!!!

I have no problem with the need to prosecute people who make, distribute and view real life child porn. What I have a problem with is groups like this taking away a VALID way for law enforcement to track these scumbags and put them behind bars. Many times law enforcement agencies are patrolling these sites looking for the illegal content themselves.

The group in question not only takes away a valid tool, but also has no accountability to any oversight comittee. The FBI and police have to follow certain rules and regulations while tracking these sites/people to properly get enough evidence to put them away. This "think of the children" group just surfs for child porn on the internet (which they are committing an illegal act BTW) and then sends the information to the ISPs to remove the content. WHY NOT SEND IT TO THE COPS INSTEAD!!! Let the proper authorities take care of this and leave ISPs out of it. If the group wants to help, let them but only with proper law enforcement supervision.

By removing these sites, this group is driving these perverted scum bags further underground, where they are less likely to be found. How bout you think of the children now???

    Re: Double Jeopardy?

I heard on TV that they are planning on charging her with some other charge so they can bring it back to trial again.

Thats what sucks about our legal system. They can charge her for one thing and when the wrongful conviction is overturned they can charge her with something else related to the first charge, just so they can try to put her in jail and save face.

But as long as one child is protected, this is all worth it....right?

Just like that Massachusetts state worker

Atleast he just got fired as opposed to this woman who actually faced 40 years jail time.

The law sucks when they have no idea how computer crime works, huh.

    Re: Re:

    Too widespread?

Any self respecting IT guy in that department would quit before being fired.

Part of my job as an IT Infrastructure Support Analyst is to make sure the computers are properly locked down so that the users cant download things from P2P or other files without an Admin password. Im not saying that they cant download anything, but to install files, etc they need a member of the IT staff to do it for them.

We routinely and randomly check computers for illegal content and PUNISH employees caught violating the terms of computer use on our system. They need to know that when they are on work time, the computers should be used for WORK purposes only. Use your home computers to download illegal movies/music cops, then the RIAA can sue you instead of us...

    Re: Re:

I agree with you. This is just the music companies complaining to the government about people sharing music/movies online, whether its downloading from a P2P or even going as far as saying that streaming music/movies on sites like yahoo is illegal. The ISPs should fight back. This is just governments and the music/movie industry trying to bully someone else into doing the work for them.

You know that once these people are kicked off virgins internet, that the music/movie companies will want to get their IP address, name, etc so they can sue them for illegal downloading

    Tomorrows headline

And the airplane industry suffers another year of record losses due to the electrocution death of crying cranky teething infant.

Lets all hope the government bails them out from bankruptcy again, after this debacle.
