    Not actually too bad

If they used their space more effectively, a medium like this could actually be much faster to use then a traditional 2d webpage. A great example is the cool iris extension for firefox which makes finding images much quicker then normal 2d pages.

  • Ubisoft Says It's Delaying A PC Game Due To Piracy; But That Makes No Sense

    Kyros ( profile ), 10 Oct, 2008 @ 04:27pm

I love steam. I download a game, and it just works. It's portable, no hassles, and just works.

Before Crysis was on steam, I bought it on DVD. I hated it. I still have no freaking clue where the DVD is, and it's a pain to install or play.

In the case of spore and bioshock - I refuse to buy either of them because of the activation limit. I buy games to own them, not to rent them.

Steam makes it easier for me to get to my games. Since it's stable and has an offline mode, even without Internet I'm fine.

I refuse totally to buy most games nowadays on anything besides steam because it's too much of a pain, the only exception being Indie games. I refuse to deal with broken, buggered DRM.

I also won't buy a game if it doesn't have a demo unless my friends rave about it. No try, no buy.

I don't consider myself odd or abnormal for anything I've said above, in fact, it's what most of my gamer buddies say. Make it easier for us to buy the game and play it then steal it.

For most games, It's both more convenient and safer for me to illegally steal it. No DRM, no buggy drm management software, no limited activations, no cd and no worries about the game doing unscrupulous things to my system like registry keys with illegal characters (bioshock). Why would I buy a game when I am harmed by it?

If you can't do a decent, easy to access release for your game, don't publish it. If you can't live without crappy DRM, don't publish it. Otherwise, people will pirate it, because you gain more from pirating it then legally buying it.

    blocking

Most email systems have blacklists. If yours doesn't, install one.

  • Indian Court Demands Google Hand Over Anonymous Blogger's Identity

    Kyros ( profile ), 15 Aug, 2008 @ 10:35am

    Google

Google is just a company. But it's a good company. Google does indicate if Chinese results are being censored, which is a step forward. It's better then nothing, which is what the Chinese would of gotten otherwise.

In this case, again, just block all the Indian IP ranges. I'm not sure how Google with handle this actually, but it seems if they go along with it, this guy may be in physical danger.

  • Do We Really Want Congress Choosing Which Business Models Are Best?

    Kyros ( profile ), 15 Aug, 2008 @ 10:28am

    Your right but...

Your right about congressmen being self serving to their wallets, but they won't actually come out to say that.

It's sad to see the officials that I vote for and who are supposed to represent me only care about money. A very small proportion of the United States cares about the RIAA and the MPAA, but sadly, Congress, our elected officials, follow them - because they the money.

  • Google, Microsoft And Yahoo Sued In India For Not Preventing Sex Selection Ads

    Kyros ( profile ), 14 Aug, 2008 @ 09:40pm

    Is it just me or...

Is it just me or did this turn into a flame war? International law is something very difficult to deal with. Sex selection products may be illegal in India, and I'm sure there's perfect reasoning for that, but they are legal in most of the world, and if people are expecting google.com (as opposed to a country specific version of google, like google.fr or google.de) to censor anything that offends anyone, well, they're stupid and don't understand Internet architecture. This isn't about cigarettes or SUV's - this is about someone applying a local standard to information created and maintained in other countries, which your country has access to.

Personally, I'd just block the whole India IP range from Microsoft, Yahoo and Google and be done with it. :)

  • Ohio Sues Diebold/Premiere Over Lost E-Voting Votes

    Kyros ( profile ), 13 Aug, 2008 @ 08:01am

    Not to sound paranoid...

Not to sound paranoid, but any programmer with a few years of experience could create a simple, secure software to deal with vote tabulation. It does seem odd that a major company with large amounts of assets can not.

  • Redlasso Sued By NBC Universal And Fox For Making It Easy For People To Promote NBC Universal And Fox

    Kyros ( profile ), 25 Jul, 2008 @ 01:13pm

    Fair Use

Ok, 30 second clips? Wouldn't that maybe possibly fall under...FAIR USE? Have we completely forgotten that? 30 seconds of clip footage != copyright infringement. It's one thing to use 30 minutes, a whole different to use 30 seconds, especially to promote something.

  • Nobel Prize Winners Continue To Explain How IP Hurts Innovation

    lol Angry Dude

You spout a lot of words, but you sure as hell have yet to offer any evidence. Big words, no proof? And nice poetry,

    but taking prose
    and adding in line breaks
    doesn't make a writer
    a poet.

  • Will VoIP Finally Get Hacked?

    Kyros ( profile ), 23 Jan, 2008 @ 06:30pm

"Hey mom..could you buy some hot pockets at the store?" Yeah, I have to agree with zcat, not worth it for the common run of the mill hacker and the government doesn't need to do it as it stands now, they can run the lines wherever, straight from the central call center. No one cares to hack VOIP.

  • The Romantics Suing Over Cover Version Used In Guitar Hero: Apparently, It's Too Good A Cover

    Kyros ( profile ), 26 Nov, 2007 @ 04:27am

Sean, They paid to have a band reproduce the song. They didn't "buy" the lyrics of music, they bought the rights to reproduce the sound. If they're reproduction is claimed to be similar to the original, what does it matter? Apparently the romantics feel they can sue because they didn't create anything unique.

  • Presidential Candidates Asked If They've Stopped Beating Their Wives With Weak Copyright Laws

    Kyros ( profile ), 21 Nov, 2007 @ 11:47am

    Steve...learn to capitalize.

That aside, I think everyone else has sufficiently stated the issue and solutions. The only thing I have to add is that you should keep in mind that one can produce nearly limitless copies of digital property and only have to pay for the price of storage, which nowadays is so cheap you can get it for free (omnidrive.com, thebox.net, etc).

I can not produce limitless copies of my house or my ham sandwich without more work, more supplies, and large sums of time, all which cost money.

  • Real Police Cross Over Into Virtual World Again; Arrest Teen For Theft Of Virtual Furniture

    Kyros ( profile ), 14 Nov, 2007 @ 01:02pm

Well of course, everything in moderation. This applies to everything, but is inherently irrelevant to the discussion.

I'm somewhat curious as to what exact law the police are prosecuting for...in the physical world your probably talking about a transfer from lines in a database, is that something you can prosecute for? How much money are we talking about anyways? I mean, since when do the cops care about 5$ in an online game?

I've never played habbo hotel, so is theft built into the game, or did the guy steal his buddies account?

  • Want To See How Pointless Shutting Down OiNK Was?

    Kyros ( profile ), 01 Nov, 2007 @ 04:26am

More sites, more files, more possible downloads. It's not a matter of magically collecting statistics (though most torrent sites do keep stats on total upload and download). Not to mention that when you say in the newspaper "RIAA SHUTS DOWN (insert torrent site) FOR GIVING FREE MUSIC" then a percentage of people are going to go investigate the site, come across clones, and start downloading music.

And sorry, but what is it with every moron that bashs the article not leaving a name or an email?
