  • Another State Court Says Speedy Fourth Amendment Violations Are Still Just Fourth Amendment Violations

    Re: That pesky Constitution

Police work has always been easy in a police state.

That's why they "don't have time for this constitutional bulls**t".

“If this were a dictatorship it would be a heck of a lot easier... as long as I'm the dictator. Hehehe.” -- George W Bush

It if is done quickly it's not a violation

    Viewer Discretion Advised

Suppose a police officer claims he / she was raped. The defendant could prove that it's not a rape because it only took 30 seconds instead of 10 minutes, because the defendant cannot hold it longer than 30 seconds. This argument is supported by the very words the police use in court. So it should be equally persuasive. A violation that takes a short time is not a violation.

    No Protests Allowed

Consider the people who think it is so horrible that Colin Kaepernick won't stand during the national anthem.

What form of protest would those people like? Would they like it better if he were out burning cars and breaking the windows of businesses as a form of protest?

In fact, what these people want is a form of protest that is totally invisible so that they don't have to be offended by it.

You can have free speech as long as it is impossible for anyone to hear it -- even if they want to. You can exercise your free speech in a location that is out of range of seeing and hearing to other people.

Isn't the purpose of a protest to be able to draw attention to some perceived injustice? Don't we all want to be made aware of injustice, before it happens to us?

First they came for the InstaFaceTwit users, but I was silent because I did not use InstaFaceTwit. Etc.

criminalizes illegal protests aimed at causing economic damage

You mean causing economic damage such as Trump publicly saying that the NY Times is failing. Saying this can have an effect on its stock price, whether true or not. But its worse when this is said just to punish a news organization, whatever you might think of them, for exercising their rights. Maybe Trump should have consequences for this type of behavior? But, then I suppose he could just pardon himself.

I didn't say it WAS a copyright infringement. It is a copyright issue. The kind of topic TD covers. And whether or not it is an infringement, it isn't any more or less so based on which candidate is doing it.

  • Junk Scientist Greets Skepticism With Legal Threats, Sues Blogger For Criticizing Him And His Work

Re: Re: Shouldn't we welcome all viewpoints?

Point 5: you feel that 9.8 m/s^2 force holding you to the ground don't you? That's proof of the rocket's acceleration. If you're complaining about the infinite stack, I would point out that an infinite length can have one end to it. So there could be one tortoise that is the start of an infinite stack. According to Miksch's Law, if a string has one end, then it has another end. I conjecture that it's the number of tortoises in between the two ends that is infinite. QED. :-)

Point 6: what other source of power, according to YOUR theory could maintain the rocket's thrust for such a long time? Not puny chemical rockets. Not even nuclear (nook-you-lar) power.

It is important to have all of this well thought out. If you're not trying to make public policy, or sell something, then why would anyone need junk science?

    Shouldn't we welcome all viewpoints?

All viewpoints should be welcome. Otherwise we end up with an echo chamber limited to sane, rational viewpoints.

My new junk science research conclusively shows that:
    1. the sun rises in the west
    2. the earth is a flat disk
    3. the sun, moon and stars rotate around the disk
    4. the disk is on the back of an infinite stack of tortoises
    5. the final tortoise of that infinite stack is propelled by a rocket at 9.8 m/s^2 giving the illusion of gravity
    6. the rocket is powered by perpetual motion machine

Politicians should make public policy based on these scientific results.

If you are skeptical and try to refute this, I'll sue! Waaaaaah!

    what it might be about

It's not about justice. It's about convictions.

Maybe it's also about keeping 'for profit' prisons full.

Fewer vacant cells means more revenue. Higher profits. Executive bonuses. Increased shareholder value. What's not to like?

    DannyB ( profile ), 25 Oct, 2016 @ 01:38pm

Re: I imagine a future when we've had enough of this.

Corporate-police collusion will be presumed Everyone is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty,
It's not collusion. MERGER ANNOUNCEMENT: AT&T to acquire law enforcement. Today, AT&T announced its intention to acquire all law enforcement for an undisclosed amount. To make future law enforcement easier and more flexible, guilt will be presumed instead of innocence. The accused will bear the burden of proving innocence.
Now the opposite is true and we're filling our prisons up with innocent convicts.
We have For Profit prisons. This is in addition to Secret: courts, warrants, laws, court orders, arrests, trials, convictions, and secret prisons. But for profit prisons(!). The education system needs to produce the correct balance of graduates who are destined to populate the prisons and others who will be the worker drones to pay for the for profit prisons. This will be a necessary change to the economy in case the military industrial complex revenue is ever in danger. (Remember the lesson of Snowden. No matter how bad you think it might be, reality is that it is already worse!)

VPNs may become the new ISPs

Having a modem was a requirement in the dial up days.

Now, having a VPN may be a basic necessity when signing up with any ISP. Instead of trusting your ISP, who once was considered worth trusting, you'll vest that trust in the VPN provider. Or use TOR over your VPN. :-) To keep your VPN from knowing the contents of your connections.

Next after that, having several VPNs, and (not yet written) software that randomly directs your connections over one of the several different VPNs.

    VPNs through other VPNs?

Who knows what else you'll need after that. Some kind of meta-network built on top of everything I just described.
