Careful,
Just because someone leaves something on your property does not make it yours. It could be considered "lost" property, "mislaid" property, or "abandonded" property each have their own process (and lengths of time you need to hold it for them) to claiming ownership. Most likely your gonna do something fun like attach it to a cargo ship before these time periods expire.
"Your whole house is built out of cards"
That'd Be Sweet!
"You're betting your life on how content you have no control over will be distributed."
Yea... But so is the RIAA and MPAA. They bet on physical media distribution in the age of 50Mbps internet.. whoops.
"You never really had anything truly original to offer, did you?"
He had some cool T-shirts a while back, but really the reason we're here is to get Mike's opinion on issues. Otherwise we could just scrap CNN's technology page, Engadget, and reddit ourselves.
"What's it like, living your life as a lie"
I don't know what it's like, but I imagine it's similar to living your life with your head in the sand, and I imagine you have a pretty good idea of what that feels like by now.
2)
Ahh Apparently I missed the memo on easily connecting IP Addresses to people. I still keep accusing printers of filesharing...
Google doesn't even have to buy out all 4... buy 1 or 2.
1) Fire lawyers. That alone will make it profitable
2) Make content available through a plethora of services by reducing fees for companies like pandora, etc. Allow digital locker type services. Now you have a highly successful studio.
3) Incorporate High level integration with other Google services to tap their huge user base.
4) Sit on their deck, drink beer, and wait for the other 2-3 studios to come around knowing they can't compete.
5:1 disliking now...
I Flagged, Spam (Misleading Text) :-)
"I don't see how the physical location of this inspection makes a difference, since it is primarily *the activity* that is being managed by the 4th amendment."
The Constitution doesn't apply outside the country... for example if you go to China you can't pull out the 1st amendment.
US Border agents are searching you / your belongings BEFORE you enter the country. Even if your over the physical line, they will say "Sir you understand that you are not actually inside the country yet". This is how they are allowed exemptions to the Constitution, once they grant you access into the US, then you are granted US protections.. like the 4th amendment. Not saying I agree with the methods/reasoning, but thats how its been all my life. Now they are just testing to see how much they can get away without getting in trouble.
But in today's fast paced world lying and being corrupt are prerequisites for a management position.
Unfortunately, intellect, wisdom, or experience is not a simple cure-all to such problems.... Lobbying money is.
" He has his laptop blasting his legally bought CDs/MP3s. Why would he have to pay up?"
By their logic (not mine) he is more liable than people that listen to the radio. At least the radio stations already paid for the public performance once, CD's that have been bought for personal use have not paid the fees for public performances.
It kinda sickens (but doesn't surprise) me that they want radio stations to pay for public performance and then have the person actually listening to that public performance to re-pay again. Since when has "going dutch" become popular again.
Although It would be a lot easier for progressive to implement their blackbox driving monitors... "Just download this app to save 'up to' 30% on your car insurance"
I Like the ability when you get pulled over to pull up some faultly dashboard skin and be like "sorry Officer I really dont know how fast I was going, the Speedometer is still in the devel. branch and not really working yet. I promise to do the speed limit as soon as a stable release is available.
One Day Closer to the fake GM press release on what cars would be like if "they kept pace with microsoft"
Some Highlights:
1. For no reason at all, your car would crash twice a day.
4. When your car died on the freeway for no reason, you would just accept this, restart and drive on.
9. The airbag would say 'Are you sure?' before going off.
10. Occasionally, for no reason, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key, and grabbed the radio antenna.
I thoroughly convinced that the only way for artists to get money out of record companies is to get paid to make statements like these.... He probably considers successful artists that embrace new distribution methods are just livin' on prayer and once this Social Disease of sharing music Without Love to the RIAA dies out, the RIAA will be partying Wild in the Streets. This is why he will Never Say Goodbye to the legacy industry. All in favor of kicking this guy to the curb (Or posting him Wanted Dead or Alive) and leave the listeners to Let It Rock...Raise your Hands Dang, Almost figure out how to use the whole slippery when wet album :-
That, and every news article, blog post, and memorial to their victims.
Before you jump on me, I'm not for this law...But
This law is for ISP's not for Websites... your gmail password will stil be encrypted, it is just your password you use to CONNECT to the internet, not what you do once your online.
That being said this is obviously so they can connect as you, visit a bunch of nasty sites, and then sue you saying "You visited StealCopyrightedMusic.com and downloaded the internet, pay us or goto jail."
Also it doesn't say (yet) that it has to be plain txt, thats an assumption, If anything I hope this encourages ISP's to encrypt more data (with reversible encryption) like your address, billing info, and browsing history.
Again I think the idea is horrible, but lets not confuse ISP's and Websites, or assume they have to be completely unencrypted.
They are not "out of touch"
They know that people 23-30 rip DVDs, download torrents, and stream netflix.. they don't deny it... they just don't LIKE it.
Bush tampering with a jury pool for Assange? Mission Accomplished.
This idea is already in place for webhosting, you have large webhosts that sell both to consumer level people and to resellers, those resellers offer reseller packages and those guys have resellers, and each level gets some small cut.
It mostly comes down to marketing and SEO for which reseller level gets the small business googling "cheap web hosting" and offers the most "features"
I can see this working,
All you need is a super high definition 3D laser scan of the person before you start looking... Wait our criminal doesn't have a high definition 3D laser scan of his face... Damn! (Throws expensive glasses on the ground and steps on them)
