    I moved

I moved all my domains and my domain hosting business off US based servers. The increasing paranoia by US Government/Law enforcement and entertainment industries turned me off.
One of the domains I host and operate is for an annual music festival and the chance of it being taken down for some bullshit reason was not worth the limited advantage of using US based servers.
Having said all that, things are not going a lot better here in Canada under the current government. :-(

Umm, what is a close-up view of her inner ear exactly going to tell you?

    Not in Canada?

The video was just on CBC national news...

    On the other hand

I have a Tom Tom that is able to warn me about "safety" cameras. I wonder how that deal would mesh?
BTW I love my Tom Tom. It enables my cell phone hands-free (even has voice dialling) via blue-tooth, is an MP3 player, a compass and works damn fine as a GPS.

"It would appear there is a huge mental transaction when it comes to electricity vs gasoline, because most of us don't think much of our cars running out of gasoline."

Until there is an electrical recharge station every couple of miles that will give you a fill-up in a couple of minutes that will not change.

    It is already here

As with most vehicles these days the computer already runs the the whole show.
My Volvo gets hooked up to their network for diagnosis but it can also do everything from changing the dimming of the rear-view mirror to adjusting the transmission shifting.
It can download updates and turn on or off features.
It is also quite proprietary so they have you by the short and curlies every time you want any service done.

There may be more "stuff" out there and it may be hard to sift the wheat from the chaff but it has always been that way. Both the good and the bad have been produced for millenniums.

I suspect the statement "But the good stuff is way, way better." is a load of crap though.
Unless we have recently managed to concoct a race of super talented people that I have not heard about.

"Funny, I emailed my favorite radio station today, after the Radio tax thing and asked them to stop playing and promoting music that is supported by the copyright lobbies."

It would be nice to have an RIAA music free day (or week) on the radio to see if the "music industry" would get a bit of a reality check.

"So, his idea of becoming more personally responsible is to give up that power and listen to what the government wants you to do?"

As I read it, it is good advice.
"That starts with each of us taking more responsibility..."
Where does it say the government/Obama mandates it?
What part of taking more personal responsibility don't you understand?

Next time you are at a shopping mall or large public gathering take a look around and tell me how many of the people you see could use a bit of commonsense health advice.

    direct sales scenario

"Here's how I imagine it working:"
    Nice idea but...
The part of the equation that is missing is the fact that Ticketmaster controls most of the venues and will not let the concert happen unless they are the ones doing the selling.

    Indeed

"In practice, what and Live Nation does is to use their clout and economic power to eliminate local promoters."
Not to mention both of them use their clout to effectively control all the major venues and set ticket prices at those venues to whatever they want.
A side effect of all this(intentional I expect)is to eliminate places indie acts can play at prices they deem reasonable.
We were looking into using Ticketmaster a few years ago for a Festival I am involved with. My investigations told me RUN, don't walk, as far away as possible.
