  • New Study Shows Patents And Innovation Are Not Related

    citizenj ( profile ), 09 Jan, 2007 @ 06:29am

    tinfoil hat time

does anyone have an idea how many innovative things have actually been stifled due to patents being bought and shelved. is there any serious research done there? one would think that large institutions with a massive amount of capital and a vested interest in maintaining the status quo would engage in such chicanery, but i've never seen any hard evidence for such abuse.

    anyone?
    bueller?

  • What Does Open Sourcing Second Life Mean?

    citizenj ( profile ), 09 Jan, 2007 @ 06:25am

now if it was actually useful...

Remember Snowcrash? Now if it was something like that, it'd be cool. If there was a virtual university where people could go to learn things that are important in meatspace, it'd be cool. If it wasn't such a complete waste of time and money, it'd be cool.

currently it's a place filled with a bunch of escapists, perverts, pedophiles, scammers and 'artists' who couldn't paint their way out of a paperbag in 1stLife.

about the only amusing thing going on in there is the 'griefers' who do things like.......
attack a prima donna scammer with giant penises.

as for your 'IP', well that's just a bunch of crap. try protecting it in a meatspace courtroom, see what happens.

it's a good idea, but the lcd just drags the whole thing down.

  • Can You Still Call Them Early Adopters If Almost Everyone Is Included?

    citizenj ( profile ), 08 Jan, 2007 @ 07:21am

    wrong vocabulary i think...

instead of 'early adopters' shouldn't we call it by what it is? Neophilia vs. neophobia. neophiles love the new stuff and the phobes don't. but more and more cool stuff is coming out so more and more people are becoming neophilic. how hard is that to understand? and no jokes about necrophilic please, it's already been done.

I should add that the documentary by HBO: Hacking Democracy is an excellent primer on e-voting issues. watch it, it should be available on your favorite torrent site.

    citizenj ( profile ), 02 Jan, 2007 @ 07:35am

    who contests votes

The assertion that only libs challenge votes is false. In New Orleans a republican found that when she voted for herself in testing all votes came up as her competitor. you can find more information re: who challenges at blackboxvoting.org. Transparency is necessary for the system to work. when forces collude to hide information necessary for our government to work 'by the people, and for the people' then something needs to change.

  • Muni Fiber Keeps Helping Economies Grow

    citizenj ( profile ), 29 Dec, 2006 @ 07:13am

    Do not sigh, instead...

Let's just nationalize the whole dang telco infrastructure, putting the monkey telco oligopoly out of business (hey, that's TWICE today I get to use oligopoly....sweet). I mean, how hard could it be to put a bunch of techs on the gov't payroll, create a WPA style program to get welfare folks out digging ditches to lay fiber, grid the whole country out w/ fiber and REALLY start being competitive in a global economy?

I'll be in Cuba if you need me....

  • And By The Time Anyone Reads The Sneaky Fine Print On AT&T's Concessions, The Merger Will Be Done

    citizenj ( profile ), 29 Dec, 2006 @ 07:00am

    Doesn't Matter you say?

pretty good service, cheap prices? what rock have you been under man? Broadband development in this country is lagging FAR behind other developed countries due to foot-dragging by the big telcos. Another big telco is NOT the frickin' answer. Let the market decide? Not in an oligopoly. Remember when the Bells got broken up back in the day? Well, they're just being put right back together, and it's going to cause problems. why don't you google save the internet before you start talking smack?
