"And people say that those putting up torrent files don't respect artists? "
One might argue that if said persons had respected the artist in the first place, they wouldn't have created the torrent. Or, they would've asked politely, since we're talking about politeness here. "Oh, but they would've said 'no.'" --- Exactly.
My band gives BJs to people when we're done performing. People then pay whatever they thought it was worth.
Pretty soon, we're just gonna bend over and let 'em have at our backsides. Maybe they'll toss us a nickel along with their inner-beans. Sure do love making music! Awesome career choice!
All musicians and songwriters are officially now simply going to be called "content creators". They make content that I can use on my website.
If they want money, they've gotta give head or something. I'm serious about this BJ-based business model. I can copy files infinitely, but BJ's are one of a kind and a finite resource.
I like the idea of buying an iPod and being able to choose 40,000 songs pre-loaded. That would be pretty cool.
How about a house that comes pre-loaded with lots of movies and songs in a media database as well? Why not. Could do it for cars as well. Buy a car, get 1000 free songs, DRM-free, pre-loaded on an on-board media system.
Then the artists could just schedule a time to come by and blow me for a few dollars -- or a "pay what you think it's worth" BJ. Pretty cool.
I think we're all going to end up blowing each other for food and shelter, while giving away music, movies, games and photos. The whole world runs on BJs now.
Who would bother stealing a factory CD player when most of them (at least, over the past 10 years or so) don't do MP3 audio? Pieces of outdated crap, IMHO. Without at LEAST an auxiliary port, why bother with any of them?
Movies in digital form, aside from the file size difference, seem to be in the same boat as music in digital form.
If the future of music is free, with artists only able to truly profit from scarcities they must create as well, then it would seem that movies would have the same fate.
Will the big name movie producers suffer the same fate as the big name record companies?
Is the forced creation of physical items that cannot be duplicated at home basically forcing musicians and filmmakers to produce pretty trinkets and baubles to go along with their digital product?
Not really a new idea -- already considered in U.S.
Maybe you folks missed this little gem from '06:

Yeah, Bob. You should search this site for my patented "pay what you think it was worth" BJ model.

I thought...
I thought Second Life died as a result of "excited delirium". Oh, wait, that was the teenager who was tased 19 times.
Re:
"there is an understanding here that eventually the completed content will be available"
available as torrent, most certainly.
one might argue...

BJ-model

Re: Re: Re: Actually, why *do* musicians have a right to get paid more than once per performance?
"good enough to get moderate radio play."
which means that it sucked, like everything else good enough to get moderate radio play.
"Content Creators"

I'm having a cup of coffee.
So... They give BJs?
I like the idea of buying an iPod and being able to choose 40,000 songs pre-loaded. That would be pretty cool.

Whatever would we do...
Without people like you to determine what worthwhile art is and is not? THANK YOU!
BJs.
Just like with music, photographers should give fans free art, free shows, free merch and now just offer BJs for money.
Yeah, eventually, you'll have to give those away as well, but in the meantime, you might be able to support your pretty hobby. Slurp slurp!
asdf
Eventually, the musician will just have to blow people for money. Then for free. Give them the music, then give them the merch, then give them head.
no mp3?

People who need money are stoopit or something
Harlan's rant = awesome. You WISH you had half the fire in his belly.
Love it
Brilliant when the person calling everyone stupid and dense does a double-post. Way to end the thread, pro.
So when will movies be free as well?
