  • How Could MySpace.co.uk Have Been 'Abusively' Registered Six Years Before MySpace Existed?

    paintball barrels ( profile ), 30 Jan, 2008 @ 06:38pm

    seriously?

So what if this dude's "business" was a traffic harvesting parking page... is that more or less legit than myspace? according to whom, the business legitimacy police? So since he was doing this before the other myspace.com came into existence, why isnt myspace.com basically stealing from him?

If you writeoff people as squatters and justify taking away their rights, dont be surprised when your rights are the next to go. scary stuff.

  • Alibaba Shows That Chinese Firms Can Leave IPO Money On The Table As Well As US Firms

    paintball barrels ( profile ), 28 Jan, 2008 @ 06:48pm

    but...

if their market is truly experiencing a .com bubble, then there is no such thing as money on the table since irrational exuberance can make the price be all kinds of strangeness. tripling was small taters in the .com days... and we'll see how badly it was mispriced if the bubble pops, too.

  • The Problem With A Database Of Prior Art Is You Don't Know What's Worth Putting In

    paintball barrels ( profile ), 22 Jan, 2008 @ 05:38pm

    seriously

the whole thing is pointless because if obvious != obvious, there is no foundation for a patent system at all. If the courts cant man up and call some things obvious that really are, theres no point in even having the patent system at all.

Hmm. gives an idea though... perhaps like these domain name generators. what if were to develop a system that didnt try to come up with ideas, but simply compbined every known thing in existence with every other thing known, and with every possible known usage... and build a list of everything that could possbily be invented today. Put this on a website and let google index. Instant prior art for any possible idea.
But i just patented this idea, so sorry...

Re: Re: Re: Easy there tiger...

angry, i own a collection of patents, and Mike is right. the system is f@#$'ed. if i want to defend one of my patents, which i spent many thousands to procure, the avergae litigation cost is several million. so as a small inventor, there is an icecubes chance in hell i'll ever be able to force someone from using my technology. on the other hand, ive had several companies issue C&D's to me for bullshit IP they claim to own. what choice to i have? i cant afford to defend myself, so i either pay huge licensing for BS or i quit producing this product. Meanwhile, these trolls are making the bucks by stealing from innovators. There is nothing good left in the system, and Im not even bothering getting any more patents.Ive lost years of my life to this stupid process and I hope they fix it someday, but Im not waiting for it.

    paintball barrels ( profile ), 21 Nov, 2007 @ 03:06pm

    gotta wonder tho

yes, for the server caching scheme to work, it would need to be user-owned and likely employ security/encryption measures... before anyone would feel confortable using them.

perhaps something to offer as a third-party service... offer part of a server for a monthly fee, and incorporate secure p2p as part of the package..arranged such that the service provider has no access to the content, only the subscriber. etc etc etc blah blah blah google will own us all anwyay ;)

  • You Don't Promote Innovation By Holding Back Those Who Push The Boundaries

    paintball barrels ( profile ), 21 Nov, 2007 @ 02:11pm

    gotta wonder tho

is there a limit to how much bandwidth a consumer can possibly use? i mean you can only consume so much media at a time right? so if you can download a dvd in 2 seconds instead of 2 hours, you still gotta spend 2 hours watching it.

but thats probably what really is the issue here, since a consumer on average will only consume a small amount of data per month, no matter how fat their pipe becomes. The p2p apps are really the only thing that can continue to consume all the remaining bandwith.

The funny thing about p2p is that it really would be a better use of network resources to serve those same files from a collection of servers instead of via last mile consumer connections, since p2p will typically result in the same data being sent over a consumer-grade connection twice (uploader + downloader)

perhaps there is some form of p2p that needs development which would allow client-side management of server-hosted files to be shared via a p2p protocol... and thus keep this unecessary bandwidth usage from occurring. but.. wow how did i ramble on this long hahah

  • One More Time: The PDA Market Is Meaningless To Measure

    paintball barrels ( profile ), 13 Nov, 2007 @ 09:58pm

    they are but..

im certain the regular ol pda market is shrinking overall. but the industrial uses for pda's has been pretty strong, this is what my company deals in. I dont know anyone who has bought a straight-up PDA in ages (remember the dell axim?) but our sales of industrial pda's has been growing significantly, as this is a niche application that proved to acutally be useful.
