I paid .50 cents, mostly because I own the BOX set of WOG, and it doesn't come with the linux version. Anyone who downloads WOG for 20$ from the site normally (well, once the linux version was released) got the linux version FREE.
So yeah, getting something that everyone else was entitled to for free, for .50c sounded reasonable.
Yes, and this is where changing business models comes in, plus as is mentioned, it doesn't hurt their current model either, in the case of SNL it drove more viewers in the end.
Plus, did Tivo kill the networks? Not really, and who wants to watch super low res stuff on youtube? I'll answer, only people like me who don't watch SNL anymore but USED to. And in this case, you only have a chance of winning them back as viewers (Lazy Sunday is bleh IMO, but still others may be drawn back)
encryption is important, but the root of the matter is the legal system, if we cannot protect basic privacy, what makes you think we'll be able to protect advanced crypto (omg they're hiding their data? THEY MUST BE HIDING SOMETHING)

They deserve it
If they didn't come to him first, they deserve everything they have to shell out, just what kind of shit were they trying to pull? I'd be pissed.
