I happen to know Marc Randazza personally and man, that is not a guy I'd like having staring point blank down the business end of a lawsuit at me. Nice guy but acerbic attorney.
The problem is that not everyone is playing or broadcasting music copyrighted by the PROs. $1000 dollars a year or more is far too much to pay "in case" a copyrighted song gets mixed in. This is just extortion.
"Why not hire more trustworthy staff and deal individually with those who abuse the system, rather than putting forth an outright ban that throws out the potential good uses along with the misuses?"
RLG is no slouch
