Since most of the juicy stuff has already been said, keep in mind that 80% of the population could be considered 'dumb'. Yes, the inventors and businessmen at the top of the aforementioned companies most certainly are not in that 80% (well, some are..), but the products they create and promote are aimed at the 80%. If all these new companies were to present their product, there would be too much choice and competition, and the mass population wouldn't know who to follow! The simpletons who barely know left from right as it is may encounter a head-popping scenario. How would capitalism (aka greed) thrive under those circumstances?
