What is desired is not always possible

I don't think the UK Parliament understands the scope of enforcing and managing what a "diligent search" would mean, or are willing to fund such an enormous task. They may be able to get it right in ten years, but in the meantime, many thousands of artists will be unfairly infringed, financially and/or morally. Most all artists would not have the time or incentive to go after mere usage fees, or have time and treasure to register and track all the work of a lifetime.

BTW, this law applies to every image creator worldwide, not just the UK. As a US citizen, are you going to find a UK lawyer to represent you? Or do you have the money to take a Berne Convention violation to court? Of course not.

Until effective image identification mechanisms exist and are proven, this law is effectively abolishing copyright protection for all practical purposes. Try showing an image to the US Copyright Office and asking if it is registered. They couldn't tell you without a name attached to the image. You think the UK is going to crack that nut by July? Dream on. :-)

    Corporate grab

This new "attitude" by Repubs is nothing but a clever corporate grab to steal your creative material at a fraction of its value. If you are an individual who creates artistic material for your livelihood, don't you want it protected? It's corporate power and greed you want to rail against, not copyright. Copyright protects the individual from abuse.

    Re: Wow, just Wow...

How can Repubs be so wrong on "everything" and "right" on this one item? That leap is too impossible to grasp. Repubs believe in private property rights, which is what copyright is doing. Protecting your property. If you are a creator, you need it.

    What a stupid argument

Mike, I won't even begin to try to educate you. Who is paying you to write this dribble?

Get an education in art history, philosophy and religion. This has all been gone over long before your brain thought it original. I would like to think these simple-minded arguments you post are clever devices to garner attention, but I really don't think you're up to that task. Try a creative pursuit, challenge yourself, take a risk, show us the result in a photograph or a painting or a song (another intangible) or a film. Don't just rant on the sidelines with what you know little about from real experience. Life will begin to be rewarding again.

    Free electricity

Hey, Mike! Totally, dude. Why should I have to pay for electricity when Tom Edison was already paid? How about those TV reruns? Them actors was already paid once! Actually, why should I have to pay for an intangible like money!!! Counterfeiting should not be a crime! I'm with ya! Right on, baby!

I can see you don't want to be an artist. Most of them would die poor if they didn't have second jobs. It's the publishers like Pinterest, who "repurpose" other people's stuff, that make the real money. When was the last time you heard of an artist getting $47 million in VC money for their "non-moneymaking" project?

PInterest is a free advertising mall for the internet marketing crowd who use it for their own commercial success. And why not make money off it! Culture's free!

BTW, copyright isn't only about making sure someone doesn't profit freely at the creator's expense, its about having control over who does and doesn't use your work. TechDirt's got a cool logo. I heard the American Nazi Party will be using it. It's free, part of the culture, right?

Ever listen to Bill O'Reilly, sweetie? You'd love him.

Re: Re: AP is the lame here

"Fairey appropriates stuff for his artwork. It's what he does. He doesn't have any bad intention. But in this case, he just didn't care where the photo came from so he didn't remember."

Bonnie and Clyde robbed banks. It's just what they did. Does that make it legal? Come on.

Is there anybody on this thread who makes a living creating anything and then gives it away for someone else to make money from?

Where the idea originate that if you see it, it is free for you to use?

Please, make something original yourselves and stand behind it with pride. Your lives will be better for it.
