    i will only take this opportunity to repeat about how the original terms for copyright were a 'scant' 14 years (actually, if i recall my initial readings, even shorter than that), in a time when information traveled as fast as a horse could, and about the only media outlet you had was the town crier and handbills...

    i have never seen ANY REASONABLE reasons for why -in this moderne age of instant, worldwide communications- it has to not only be MUCH LONGER, but essentially endless...

    THE ONLY 'REASON' is money-grubbing by korporate 'persons' who matter more than real people...

    1. TRIED to get even shitty satellite link (problem -for most- isn't that it is 'slow' -it is 5-10 times faster than DSL!- but the latency), but you know what ACTUALLY happens ? ? ?
    i call or go on website of a satellite ISP, and as SOON as i input my zip code, they either A. tell me they can't offer service because of NON-COMPETE 'agreements' (I DIDN'T agree to any steeenking non-compete 'agreements'!); or, B. LITERALLY transfer my phone call to my present (shit) ISP...
    THERE IS NO CHOICE, nimrod...
    2. live in a rural-ish area outside a medium metro area (said area has a local utility which has 50mps service in some parts of the city, but CAN NOT EXPAND; NOT due to their desire, NOT due to the market/demand, NOT due to economics, BUT BECAUSE THEY ARE FORBIDDEN TO DO SO...) and while the local cable MONOPOLY (um, this *is* America, richtig ?) has said (and shown maps) that their service extends MILES past our residence for DECADES, that is a lie on two counts: A. they are plain old-fashioned lying, it does not extend that far; B. they are subject to NON-COMPETE agreements, so that i could not get their (slightly less shitty) ISP service if they did have cable strung out here...
    3. last frustration, in esearching about fiber optic, ran across a map which shows a major fiber trunk NOT ONE MILE from where i live... will there be ANY FREAKING WAY i could tap that shit, EVEN IF I HAD THE MONEY/MEANS ? ? ? no fucking way, i am screwed by korporations who have fucked us over royally...

    'we' do NOT own or even have any real influence on the shitty and shady 'deals'/laws 'our' (sic) municipalities/states have imposed upon us, to parcel out OUR right-of-ways, AGAINST OUR WISHES...

    on the left side of this photograph is some material in the background that *appears* (i feel like a 'Fair Witness' in heinlein's stranger in a strange land) black/white...

    *HOW* is that black even REMOTELY like EITHER shade shown in the dress (which i find ugly-ish) ? ? ?

    further, in the upper right, you can see the overexposure where sunlight is streaming in a window which has blue-green (teal?) drapes; to *me*, it is obvious that *that* is what gives the 'white' portion of the dress its blue-ish cast to the white... again, HOW can you match any of that blue-ish color to either shade (aside from the white with blue-ish cast alluded to) ? ? ?

    i have not stared at it long enough to get the colors to flip, and won't waste my time doing so...
    it is a gold-ish brown and white with blue cast...

    i know some people (in fact, i work with them) who *think* they are some kind of reasonable human beans, who are abject authoritarians, who refuse to actually observe, reason, and come to their own conclusions based on archaic stupid things called 'principles', 'fairness', and 'ethics' ... they reflexively side with WHATEVER 'their' gummint (the fools) says, and want to ELIMINATE people like me who do not knuckle under the weight of Empire...

    let me make this clear: i would like to get rid of (by any means necessary) the .1% who perpetrate this horrific charade; but, i do not want to eliminate the authoritarian dupes (i'd like to educate them, but -if you read up on authoritarians- they are NOT amenable to reason); but they WOULD lynch me tomorrow if they could, AND SEE THAT AS BEING HEROIC, NOT MONSTROUS... they see themselves as eliminating 'savages' and 'traitors', NOT humans...

    they are quislings to the constitution, they are about as UNamerican as you can get, but they will NEVER see that; and WILL string you up righteously, all the while hiding behind the flag... never realizing THEY are what is wrong with amerika, THEY are unpatriotic and have abandoned the constitution, reason and equity in their sham patriotism...

    fyi, andrew zimmern of 'bizarre foods' teevee show (which i like and watch a lot), had a segment on a show i saw recently about the sauce and vietnamese immigrant who started the company, and that was something he repeated throughout the segment: didn't see what all the fuss was about...

    not sure if it was a new or old show, but that was pretty much his take: thought it was 'ok' sauce, but no big deal... kind of weird thing is, he made allowances for how much he admired the guy and his operation, and *THAT* was what made it a 'great' product for him...

    frankly, while i certainly do admire the guy and what he has done, i have not had a chance to try the sauce yet (and not something i am generally into *that* much: a little hot sauce on a wing or shrimp, whatever, sure, but not an every meal thing for me; besides, i like some spicy thai and peanut sauces better); BUT, basing your 'taste' in that condiment on how it was made and the backstory, is kind of retarded: either you like the taste of the sauce and buy it because of that, or you don't...

    having said that, i am intending to buy a bottle *because* the guy seems like a quintessential American success story, BUT, if i don't care for it, i won't buy any more *just because* he is a 'good guy'...

    also, having seen the segment, i have *some* qualms with the fact that they are mono-culture farming of -i think it was- 2000 thousand acres devoted exclusively to peppers... i think we are fucking up big time with mono-cultures, and need to go back to interplanting on smaller scales, varied crop rotations, etc which provides the benefits of a diverse agricultural ecosystem, and sustains the land better than mono-cultural, force-fed fertilizers, endless dousing with herbicides/pesticides, BECAUSE YOU HAVE ELIMINATED all the beneficial microbes and bugs that could help us raise crops...
    HOWEVER, that argument can be made for 90%+ of our agricultural products, because 'that is they way it is done' in a system dominated by Big Ag... not fair to pick on him for what is the prevailing practice...

    well, two bad examples in a number of ways...

    1. saloon sux, period... it is all but impossible to visit that site without adblock+/ghostery/etc... the HUGE list ghostery shows of crap they are loading is jaw-dropping... not only bad in a theoretical privacy sense, but it takes fucking FOREVER for pages to load...
    really, one of the shittiest designed and executed websites there is...
    frankly, the ONLY REASON i go to saloon, is to see what looney PC, uber-fembot bullshit they are selling that day, and shake my head and laugh at their idiocies...
    (been banned from commenting because i mock them mercilessly and they could not abide that...)
    libtards like them make me NOT want to be associated with liberal/progressive issues in any way; they disgust me, they have NO principles (otherwise they would repudiate the war kriminal obomber), AND they are anti-freedom in nearly every posture they take...
    2. and -of course- the 'listening to their readers' by metrics is bullshit: i go to a site, i may open 5-10 tabs of stories i might be interested in, or merely want to laugh at the lunacy in the comments, BUT, maybe put that in the background while i do some other tasks, and their 'metrics' are telling them i visited, opened a bunch of stories, and was on the web page for HOURS, when -in fact- i NEVER got back around to going back to read the stores, etc...
    its not turtles, its bullshit all the way down...
    3. MANY times, the comments -good or bad- are WAY more interesting and insightful than whatever article was the impetus for comments... one annoying aspect of that, is when/where there IS an interesting thread of comments, it gets shoved down the list until invisible (IN SPITE of still being active), and is smothered in the cradle...

    that is the problem of the elephant in the living room: authoritarians...
    approx 25% of ANY population will be comprised of authoritarians; THEY are the impediments to citizen actions, they are the quislings and non-thinkers who comprise the not-so-silent minority who can be depended upon to support the status quo/leadership NO MATTER WHAT...
    this is NOT a joke: if the authoritarians Big Daddy says 'hate/kill XYZ!', they will hate/kill XYZ, NO QUESTIONS ASKED...
    the horrifying aspect is, if Big Daddy says THE NEXT DAY 'love/protect XYZ!', the followers will turn on a dime WITHOUT QUESTION and now love XYZ...
    there is NO 'logic', there is NO 'reasoning', there is NO 'greater good for the greatest number', it is ALL about doing whatever Big Daddy says UNCRITICALLY...
    in short, THERE IS NO REASONING with authoritarians...
