  Bought the company without doing a forensic audit of the books? Fascinating. Not even a fundamental review of the numbers? You know? Income. Broken out by source? What about Memberships? Nobody evaluated the actual member database? I'm sitting here thinking how utterly ridiculous and simultaneously actually plausible that is. They're either idiots, con artists, or both.

  From absurd to ridiculous

  I'll be honest. After reading the hedline, my instinct was to come here to defend Buc-ees. But only because they are near to my heart for the services the provide those traveling. As soon as I started reading, it was absurd. By the end, it was ridiculous. Give people a lot of money, corporate mentality & litigious attitudes, they do the stupidest things. They abuse that power. To control others.

  He was furious when he wasn't chosen to be the DNC's golden candidate, & instead they went with Kamala. He has always been about taking the most publicly viable (in his mind) ride to power & fame. His executive order last year, allowing state agencies to begin dismantling homeless encampments, was a warning sign. There have been many warning signs over the years. He's driven by ego, and as a result, he fully leans into authoritarianism as a weapon to support his life ambitions agenda.

  Nuance and Clarity

  As long as I have been in SEO (24 years), I read a lot about AI and how it impacts site ownership control over content. To me, if an AI "agent" is accessing a URL at the instruction of the person writing the prompt, that's no different than if that person were to go directly to that URL in a browser. In no way is it acting like a traditional crawler for bulk scraping. Unless the prompt directs such an action, then things get nasty. But do they? I think the intent of the scraping is what matters, not the method of scraping. That's what it comes down to. If you're scraping for any use that does not include producing a new product whose main content is scraped, I don't see a use-case problem. The minute commercialization comes into play, publishers should have the right to block that scraping, again, regardless of scraping method.

  Avoid your data being held hostage

  I've been an internet consultant since 1995. There has never been a valid case to allow a third-party centralized service to be where anyone has their important content. Portability, sustainability, and ultimately trust, all require finding a way to either host your own content, or, now, participate in a system that is moving to be decentralized. As for Mastodon, the arrogance of claiming Bluesky should use ActivityPub, is hilarious. It's literally trying to force centralized control.

  It's posts like this that bring me the most joy when I read TD. I love that Rajat Khare, someone who appears to be a pathetic, low-life criminal, tries to use abusive tactics to disappear from sight so he can continue his criminal enterprise activities, yet only brings many of us true happiness.
