    Novell?

Maybe as soon as someone buys Novell they can buy out SCO as well.

  • The Myth Of Razors And Razor Blades

    Definately brand loyal.

Brand loyalty is a factor for me. When I'm spending a lot of money then I like to know what I'm getting will be a quality product that will last.

My first razor was a Gillette. My current razors are Gillette's. I have the Mach 3 and it's battery powered successor. My next razor might be something different. I've noticed Gillette blades just don't seem to last as long as they used to.

So Gillette being a brand that's now not giving me the quality I'm looking for might well be a brand I'm about to leave behind.

It's reading posts like this that make me glad I don't live in America. The land of the "free"?

One of the things that stops me participating in a web site and contributing content is the need to log-in or register just to leave a simple comment. Some how I need to remember over a 100 user names and passwords. And that doesn't even include my work passwords.

  • Putting Press Releases Online? Patented! Lots Of Small Companies Sued

    aikiwolfie ( profile ), 22 Jul, 2010 @ 04:01pm

Does the US patent office simply rubber stamp every patent application that comes through the mail and wait for someone to be sued as a test of it's validity? This case would be laughable if it wasn't so tragic.

It's little wonder why the US economy does so poorly. Who'd want to do business there?

  • Early Indications Say Paywall For The Times Is A Dreadful Failure

    aikiwolfie ( profile ), 18 Jul, 2010 @ 11:14am

OMG! It's like the people at "The Times" have been living in a bubble for the last two decades. This just could not get any more ironic.

The problem The Times has is there are plenty of places to get new that don't have pay-walls. And the journalism is just as good and a good deal more neutral. And in the UK we've already paid for an on-line news site in the form of the BBC.

Why would we pay for more?

  • Vampire Weekend Sued Because Photographer Might Have Falsified Model Release

It seems a bit ridiculous this band has been caught out like this. Their publishers should have checked everything was on the level.

The fact remain however that the band used a photo they apparently didn't have have the rights to. That being the case, the band are liable to be sued. $2 million isn't that big a deal in todays money for a successful band. They should pay up and reissue the album with new artwork they do have the rights to.

  • Zombie SCO Rises Again, Appeals Latest Ruling

    aikiwolfie ( profile ), 09 Jul, 2010 @ 01:02pm

    ROFLMAO

Oh man when will SCO just die and rot in the ground? Surely someone in the halls of justice in the USA must be getting tired of this as well? I mean do the judges get a special SCOver time rate or what?

How many times can SCO appeal? Why aren't the bankruptcy people killing SCO off? This is bizarre justice in the extreme.

  • Microsoft Suggests Android Violates Its Patents… But Gets HTC To Buy A License

    aikiwolfie ( profile ), 02 May, 2010 @ 03:47pm

    Software Patents Should Be Illegal

This case of Microsoft and Apple Vs Google via HTC is exactly why software patents should be illegal. At the very least if a company wishes to accuse another of violating it's patents then it should be forced to produce the proof before strong arming the accused into a "secret" deal.

  • Now, Apparently It's Not Just Content Providers That Are Getting A Free Ride On Broadband Networks, But Consumers Too

    aikiwolfie ( profile ), 22 Apr, 2010 @ 12:55pm

I remember this system. It used to be called AOL and CopuServe before the simpler ISP model became more attractive. Ya know ... company A gives you an open connection to the web for a monthly flat fee V company B telling you what to do and making you pay for the privilege.

I know which provider I'd choose every time.

  • UK Testing Speed Cameras From Space? Not Exactly, But Still Troubling

    aikiwolfie ( profile ), 22 Apr, 2010 @ 06:02am

Speed Limits Need To Be More Consistent.

I think there would be less trouble with speeding motorists if speed limits were more consistent and sensible. For example even organisations like the AA say it would be perfectly safe to drive faster than 70mph on a motor way. Something like 80mph to 90mph would be more realistic.

Speed limits in towns and cities need to be more consistent. The speed limit on all housing estates and near schools should be 20mph. Without exception. A two lane single carriage way main road should be 30mph. Two lane dual carriage ways should be 40mph. All motorway style dual carriage ways should be treated as motorways.

What we have now is a situation where a driver can drive a 40mph on a 2 lane dual carriage way at some parts and then 30mph on other parts. Which just happen to have a speed camera. The whole road network in the UK is a total mess.

Take yellow hatched boxes. You're not supposed to enter them unless your exit is clear. Unless of course you're turning right. Just what is the point of that?

  • Duh, Don't Leave A Thumb Drive With Child Porn Plugged Into A Shared Computer

    aikiwolfie ( profile ), 22 Apr, 2010 @ 05:46am

I think it's reasonable to look at what's on a thumb drive to find out what it is and who it belongs to. The police or station staff would do the same thing with an unattended suit case if there were no identifying tags on the outside.

They'd open it up and look around for some kind of ID. If they then found child porn in that suit case and you returned to claim the case just at that moment. You'd be arrested and charged.

I'm not American and frankly don't give a monkeys about 4th amendment rights or whatever. This is a clear cut case of a paedophile being caught red handed and trying to use a convoluted technicality to worm his way out of charges and jail time with Bubba.

Why do courts tolerate this nonsense?
