China Working On Anti-Spam Law
from the good-luck-with-that... dept
A lot of spam ends up coming via servers in China. Many people have tried to convince the Chinese government to do something about it, but so far they’ve been pretty slow. Last year, once they realized that political opponents were sending out “subversive” political spam, it suddenly seemed worthwhile for the Chinese government to take notice. According to some reports, China is about to come out with an anti-spam law. Of course, given the way the Chinese government works when it comes to internet issues, you get the feeling this isn’t going to do very much to solve the spam problem — and is likely going to make other problems worse.

Why assume subversives are good?
China’s dissidents include the Falun Gong, Uighur nationalists, or Tibetan nationalists, all of who want to turn China (or their part of China) into Taliban-style theocracies. Under Tibetan Buddhism, women are not allowed to become priests, own property, or vote.
