Being Invisible

from the people-are-disappearing-everywhere dept

An increasingly popular topic, it seems, is researchers working on invisibility. We had a story back in February about a Japanese researcher who could make people invisible, though it was only good for photographs, since it involved projecting an image onto the invisible person, and having it match with the background. A few days later we had a discussion on terahertz radiation photography – a method of seeing through certain objects. Another, similar technique was discussed in April. This time, a researcher was talking about using tiny reflective lenses to camouflage items (though, there were plenty of questions about how well this would actually work). So, now, Wired Magazine has put together a report about a such invisibility technologies and what it might take to build a real invisibility solution. Basically, they say that it’s not impossible, but it’s really not doable with today’s technology.
