Yahoo Sale Could Signal Bad News For The Internet

from the oh,-calm-down dept

Here’s a column suggesting that if Yahoo! gets acquired (as is being talked about a lot these days) it could signal the death of the internet. It will mean that most of the internet will be created behind “walled off” gardens, and there will be little in the way of free independent content. I find that hard to believe. The fact is that Yahoo! already is a huge corporation, and there are plenty of independent websites that are doing just fine. The nice thing about the internet has always been that people can do with it what they want. Just because the corporations come in and crash the party doesn’t mean that everyone else goes away.
