Over-The-Air Firmware Updates Finally Showing Up

While the Danger device does this, I’ve wondered why so few mobile phones allow you to do over-the-air firmware upgrades. With my phone, I need to go to a local dealer to have them update the software – something I never do unless there’s a problem with the phone. However, it sounds like some carriers are finally realizing the importance of over-the-air software updates. Part of the reason for this change of heart, of course, is that it’s getting costly to have to do live updates every time there’s a problem. NTT DoCoMo and SK Telecom, two companies that seem to lead the way in wireless applications, are both offering over-the-air updates – and I expect we’ll see similar things from others soon.
