St. Louis Setting Up "Largest" Free WiFi
Go, go St. Louis. Someone in St. Louis has realized the value of free WiFi, and have contracted with a local firm called O2Connect, to set up what they believe is the nation’s largest free WiFi hotspot – which will cover 42 square blocks of space in downtown St. Louis. As they say, this is no longer a hotspot, but a “hotzone”. The article claims you need “line of sight” to an access point, which isn’t exactly true, but this still sounds like a great deal. They’re doing it to promote business in downtown St. Louis. O2Connect is donating most of the equipment and broadband as a combination of “civic pride” and to promote themselves. It would be more encouraging if the city were paying them for such things – but it’s still quite a feat to WiFi up such a large area.
