Techdirt Podcast Episode 431: The Many Problems With The FTC’s Pornhub Settlement

from the unintended-consequences dept

Last week, we published three separate posts that looked at the FTC’s recent settlement with Aylo, the parent company of multiple adult websites including, most famously, Pornhub. Those posts, written by Stanford HAI policy fellow Riana Pfefferkorn, examined the legally complicated but very important issues that arise from the settlement forcing Aylo to scan for CSAM. This week, Riana joins us on the podcast alongside TechFreedom president Berin Szoka, to go even deeper into the legal weeds and explain how this settlement could doom criminal CSAM cases.

Alice Bullard says:

you need a political advisor!!!

This is an informative podcast but you make me laugh because of the political naivety that is expressed again and again AND YET you want not to be abused in the political process. To resolve that, you really need to be more pro-active in confronting the political process.
One small example: you mention that Jim Jordan did not release the investigative depositions and then dumped them in an unindexed pdf. Is there anything preventing YOU from publishing these documents and also feeding them into LLM AI databases? You’re supposed to be the Tech people, so counter the political disinformation with your own more pure information and get it out into the public using your tech know-how.
Some free advice.
Best wishes,
AB
