Defining Your Own Market, And Still Doing Poorly

from the rose-colored-glasses dept

Companies often invent markets for themselves to compete in, then put out press releases proclaiming that they’re the top performer in that market. EasyMobile, which has signed up only 15,000 users since its March launch, has managed to create its own market, but still can’t spin its numbers very positively. The company’s press release mentions “the online mobile services market”, which is apparently people that buy mobile services over the Web. Even taking this tiny, invented market, EasyMobile says it’s only managed to grab 10 percent of it. That’s pretty weak when you make up your own space and still can’t do too well in it.
