Does Verizon Put Spyware On Your Computer?

from the how-nice... dept

While it could be yet another case of Microsoft’s anti-spyware technology being a little over sensitive (there have been more than a few such reports), someone has noticed that the software Verizon ships out for subscribers to their broadband access wireless service is being flagged as spyware, with a “severe” warning, suggesting that it be removed. The theory is that Verizon was trying to monitor usage for beta customers, but it still seems like a questionable practice, no matter what. As the various datacard wireless data solutions come out, it will be interesting to see if other providers also use such “monitoring” software — and how people react to it.
