Embrace File-Sharing, Or Die

from the amazing dept

A record label exec and musician (and his son) have written up a long position paper explaining why the music industry needs to embrace file sharing. It’s basically a summary of all the various articles that we’ve discussed here over and over again over the past couple of years. It’s worth reading just to remind you of some of the points he makes. His conclusion is that the industry needs to embrace file sharing for its own survival. I’d be surprised if this actually has any impact on the rest of the music industry – but I’m increasingly of the opinion that they won’t matter very much longer. Music will continue, and a new music industry will show up. The old music industry won’t survive.
