Mobile Phone Rage Ends In Shooting

Another public service announcement from those of us at Techdirt. Please be careful how you use your mobile phone in public places. A man in NY was apparently pissed off at someone he was talking to on the phone, and began to curse him out. Another man, standing nearby seemed to think the tirade was directed at him, and decided to shoot the man who was on the phone. Just imagine how much worse this gets when everyone has a phone embedded in their teeth. Luckily, the man was only shot in the foot (not, I’m sure, that that’s much consolation to him – he still was shot, after all) and is in stable condition.

The tone of the linked article almost sounds like it is blaming the victim. I’m fully supportive of a citizens right to own and carry a weapon, however you don’t get to shoot people for offensive language, even if it is directed at you. It’s whackos’s like this that add strength to the arguements from the gun zealots.
Phone Shooting
Just like the two guys who got into a fight in the Sauna at 24 Hour Fitness in Mountain View the other day. Seems one wanted to enjoy some steamy peace and quiet and the other guy wouldn’t stop yapping on the cell phone. There are some places the cell phone just doesn’t need to go!
