Buy, Buy, Buy
Wednesday was all about acquisitions. Consolidation in the wireless space is inevitable and good. So first off Openwave picked up two companies, SignalSoft for their LBS systems and Ellipsus to help deliver java downloads to handsets. The one odd thing to note is that SignalSoft has a lot of cash on hand, I’m sure that makde them a target. But if they had so much cash were they worried about how long it would take LBS to tak off? There seems to be some concern in the industry that while LBS is cool, consumers, even consumers in wireless savvy European countries, just aren’t ready for it. The other consolidation was Extended Systems deciding that they wanted a San Franciso office. Since things are so cheap in SF these days, they decided it would be easier to just buy ViaFone than deal with a real estate agent.
