Online Casino Protection Racket Busted
from the caught dept
Last year, news started spreading about how an organized crime group online had set up something of a "protection racket" against online casinos. If an online casino didn't pay up, the group would launch a denial of service attack to take down the casino. While many casinos paid up, some continued to fight the attacks, and now British authorities say they've arrested three men involved in the protection racket and believe they'll arrest more shortly. Of course, at this point, the story is mostly worth noting because of how rare the situation is. It still seems like online criminals are way ahead, skill-wise, compared to online cops.
