Security Cameras Are Getting Smart -- And Scary

Taking anything that's analog and making it digital expands the possibilities of what you can do with it. Suddenly, people are realizing that's true with security cameras as well. In the post-September 11th focus on improving our security, companies that make fancy digital security camera systems are finding a larger and larger market. Some of the systems designed for home use seem quite impressive, but when you take that same technology and use it in public spaces, people are afraid of the privacy implications. These same arguments have been popping up for years and it's done little to change things. I think it's pretty clear that public surveillance isn't going to decrease any time soon. What needs to be done is to have more suveillance on those who have access to this information to make sure they're not misusing it.
