Revelati,
"Well the PTC does have a point. If you are too busy/ignorant/uncaring to raise your children and let the TV raise them instead, they are going to grow up with potty mouths"
If your any of the above you should not have children! Thats the reason me and my fiancee arnt considering children, were both way too busy with our professions to give a child the time they need.
Why the rest of the world listens to the US patent office anymore has me scratching my head :P
Seriously almost makes me want to be american, i could patent breathing if i worded it confusingly enough i reckon!

"This domain could be incredibly profitable if it became a porn site."
Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "bible bashing".

Im sure if we sit down we can find a dozen different sites with the word book after some random title. And yay got a story posted :P
Seriously though, who the hell do they think they are? Does anyone have a link to those pictures? The one's showing the sites are similar?
And harking back to sesame street reference, does that mean the colour blue is out from their line up now as well?
Or perhaps facebook now has the copyright monster? *nom nom nom*
wow some people are really anti-google arnt they!
As for why would they want wi-fi locations when their allready advertised? Well google was working on a public transport timing map to intergrate into their mapping software(not sure if its finished yet). That info's available elsewhere, but it would be nice to have it intergrated.
Why all the whining? Really its not that important, as pointed out, they could get the passwords other ways. Everyone knows they sell marketing information, thats no reason to shout "omg google has wifi information!".
I think too many people are having way to much caffeine in their drinks today
I think that was the Mike Masnick version of a (what do you americans call it?) oh yeah, smackdown :P
And on a side note, this threads gotta be getting to some sort of record by now. Mike you ever get the feeling some people just dont have any reading comprehension?
So
a) person a created a bot to automaticly trade for them
b) person b noticed the bot was making trades as intended
c) person b setup trades based on that machines trading
isnt person b doing what person a's bot is doing? Trading based off a pre-set of stimuli? Shouldnt the fault lay with the programmer of the bot?
Makes me wonder what the stock market is for, if your not allowed to trade on patterns.
Ahem,
Illegal porn in australia is anything with an RC rating(refused classification) - or just not even classified.
How they think their going to enforce this is beyond me, but hey, im going to japan in a few months, my trip backs going to be interesting! (especially as were taking 3 laptops with us).
Wonder if that includes declaring whats on my external HD's too? backup dvd's/blu rays/flash drives? I think im going to have to ask them for bigger forms :P
Oh and what actually classified as RC, im not 100% sure lol.
>work if they are unable to tour,
Or show me any business thats able to make profit if its:
Unable to meet their customers, to only sell their products online(here's a hint, when you do show them(and they do exist) their using a business model that supports them)
>work when a songwriter on his own has no support to tour,
Songwriters tour? They run around handing out new songs?
>work when they are no longer a band.
Ive closed my business, give me money becuase i useto run a business.
>Good god. Any "market" that is based on illegally >obtaining something without payment is not a free and >honest market. Maybe you're assuming your ignorant >sycophants here think free markets are to be taken >literally...
I sell bottled water, does that make it illegal to drink water from a lake? But now were starting to see the crux of your argument! Only took how long?
Still waiting for evidence.
>You're a charlatan.
Unlikely, we practice rational thought around here(well most of the commenters do).
*ponders replying to the troll*
No, not worth it.
Oh but wait, your accusations that he does not know what he's talking about and his models do not work? What about the rest of us who support his ideas?
Your insisting were all wrong? Your a die hard democrat? good for you, im a die hard aussie programmer, nice to make your acquaintance, neither of those make a difference to our arguments.
I personally, as a programmer and a web designer, work with a few bands. Guess what? They release their music for free, and charge for scarse items. They all still work(well as much as they useto haha), but they make a nice little earner on the side for themselves, and travel quite frequently around aus playing at different shows.
From what i can see your arguments have started out at something almost rational, and rapidly fallen down to attempts at personal insults. Id call you an industry shrill, but i honestly think they would pay for someone with a more thought out writing style.

Great article, ive emailed that to a few mates of mine(ok and half a dozen people who will probably roll their eyes and go "why is this guy on my mailing list?").
But i think as interesting as it is to ponder, were not really going to know how things will turn out - until we get there. But id vote farts is probably the way we will go, and its not necessarily a bad thing... but could be (i think ive borked my brain) - artificial scarcity can be good, but if its a life saving item, then its going to be bad.
I do wonder what a solution is though.
:s
Nice breakdown, but as it was broadcast publicly, doesnt that invalidate their right to issue a take down notice? (honest question, i personally think it should.)
Now im the first to admit im not completly up with US law and fair use, but wouldnt the fact that it was broadcast on "free-to-air" television have made it free use? As it was a freely handed out video, wouldnt that make it free to reproduce as long as no profit is gained?

damnit i finally get a story in first and mentioned, and i get too busy at work to read it for a few days :P
And this is a crock, as has been shown, its not exactly a unique idea!
6 million page views in april... 13 in feb... so your not really seeing a growth? are we talking page views per year or in total and over how many years?
Cmon mike you usually point things like that out :s
As an Australian,
Id just like to say, its nice to have known you all! The last 10 years have been fun and im sure i can speak for all of Australia when i say we have laughed, cried, giggled, blogged and gamed our selves through the collective worlds of the internet.
Soon we we will be no more, you may hear a whisper from us now and then, but our ''splendid isolation'' will return. Like England of old, we will be divided by a large ocean, with very little information about us getting out.
Remember us fondly, we were not that arrogant, we instead were the flippant ones, always making jokes. We were not the destructive, we built for fun and laughter. We shall miss you all.

A little over the top? Wait until each different group gets their hands on the ''secret'' filter list.... Ill probably end up in jail for working around the filter, but by god its going to be fun!
Bruce imho you have hit the nail on the head. We can trawl the net for the information we need on any subject we want, but when i pick up a paper, i want an informed article. I dont want to read a paper full of half truths(due to lack of knowledge about the subject matter).
Shame Techdirt does not run a news paper everyday :P
