Regarding your comment that the machines don't work well and Mont Co. "tossed" 10,813 tickets, I beleive that the police (and maybe the vendors??) review each incident to see if it is a true violation. For example, I know people that got a ticket where they did stop but after the white stop line. They called up and had it tossed out and that is probably what a lot of the 10,813 are - captured events but not approved as a real violation.
So why don't people get this reality that money talks? Behavior modification is what is needed (and I don't think anyone disputes that) so what's the problem? Oh, yeah, I forgot that too many people want the freedom to break the law when they choose and then claim its an invasion or privacy or something else at fault. I agree with this comment entirely - pay enough hard-earned dough and see if you want to continue risking the consequences.

So you would rather have people shooting high powered rifles repeatedly in your town than trying to get people to stop for red lights? I'm with the other poster, 'you must be on drugs'!
So, at 40 MPH you had at least 3 seconds of the yellow light and you got caught 2 seconds into the red light. At over 58 feet per second (at 40 MPH) you had 290 feet to stop safely without running the light. Um, that's a whole football field!
Um, Rob (#3), I thought that the red light tickets are not reported to insurance companies. Could it be your ticket was issued by an on-site officer and that's how you got nailed? And that is no different than anywhere else where insurance companies rate their driver's risks based on behavior. Good behavior warrants better rates.
And about Schaumburg in general, I find it amusing that the City didn't know that most of the violations would be right turns and now they want out. Seems to me the City was looking for the revenue but failed to conduct a traffic study to assess the problem. So it's both the vendor and City failed to research the situation and then caved to local pressures. What a great example of bad planning.
