  New Method

  Along with the change in Multiplication, there is a change to do addition is a similar way from left to right. The reason I was given is that it makes it "Easier" for the students to learn.
  
  The left to right does not work for subtraction or long division. So now instead of learning 2 methods you need to learn 4.
