  Too bad it isn't a real customized Corolla and is just a ad campaign instead because that would of seriously tempted me.

  It basically means that 70% of the people who pass through these scanners get a false positive and since they say that 35% of the people passing through these scanners set off multiple false positives it seems the immediate recourse to a positive scan is another dose of rads. Once you get that second false positive it would seem you get a manual pat down.

  I think you misunderstood the point he was making. It's not the patent office that is creating the delays in granting its the patent itself that is creating the delay in the time that it is monopolizing the idea.

  As to last paragraph: no, I think it arguable that being forced to find other ways to implement the same idea can actually help. It's only when the ideas aren't very fundamental that the tangle arises.

  
  
  I would have to disagree because there always seem to be people out there so say "yeah that works and everyone is doing it but there just has to be a better way". You do not always have to force people to find different ways and forcing people to find different ways to do something does not always make actual improvements because alternatives are sometimes unworkable at a current technology level.
  
  So while I understand how you can think the patent system is helping is create a diversity of ideas and solutions I think you will find that thanks to how human nature and creativity works you would find all these alternatives out there anyways when there are needs for them.

  Now that they're close to getting all of their dream legislation passed, maybe they realize they can shift some of this money from lobbyist's over to the pretense of paying artists.

  
  I think you would find that anything we look at as their dream legislation is actually only another click of the ratchet and they would just push for even more draconian legislation the second they can.

  I do like the idea of being able to recoupe legal fees and such when hit with a bogus takedown. If companies had to face possibly paying the defendants legal fees maybe we could get some chilling effects going in the other direction where they actually pause and think for a second before firing off a takedown.

  Well your web browser does not tell you its caching stuff to improve page loads either, its just part of how we expect things to work.
  
  Again, the folly of what apple was doing with iOS issue the never expiring cache (ok, limited to 2 megs and that was way too big) and the fact that it stores it off device as well.

  First of all Android does tell you that it will be tracking and using this information when you first turn on location services and then it holds a cache of some recent locations you have been at to help location based services lock on to your location faster. This cache is located only on the phone and can only be accessed by rooting your device.
  
  iOS on the other hand logs your location even if you have location services disabled and this log never expires, in fact if you wipe your phone and then sync it with your computer it puts your old log back on the device. As mentioned the log is on the phone and requires jailbreaking it to access or you can pull the log off any computer the phone syncs to.
  
  And you really have to be joking if you think Apple does not use location targeted advertising, its one of the points of their own iAd advertising and they almost kicked other advertisers who do location targeted advertising off their platform.

  Here here. Righthaven and Perfect 10 are actually on the side of the good guys because they are so good at getting shot down in the courts and getting GOOD legal precedents set.
  
  Its just a shame they have to waste so much of other peoples time and money in the process.
