  I've even saved the company thousands of pounds, solving a company issue with Facebook (I went home at lunch to use it) - by being able to broadcast a plea to expert people who I know... it's silly, but they'll never budge!

  But now it's a private company, it doesn't fall under the government in anyway, it's therefore not - it's just "copyright"... surely? I can see how it *was*... "Royal Mail" is just a trademark now. It means nothing in the context of the public sector or government.

  Amazon does pay websites for referrals... Amazon is already open to those taxes (and is shutting affiliates down in states that are going to start demanding those taxes, which hurts the affiliate as a business in that state!) but it has to be *your* site. What we're talking about is other people sites - should they still pay you if you offer Amazon links via Facebook, or Techdirt - in a comment, say or wall post...? Or would that encourage people spamming those sites?

  Surely Amazon's measure is there to counter act against spam...? I'd not like to see my Facebook account bombarded with spam containing links to Amazon, from all my friends, and if Amazon has any care for their corporate image, nor would they.

  In London there are 4 or 5 general commuter free papers, a free Thursday sports paper, and others besides...
  
  In Brighton we've probably about 6 or 7 free magazines a month - usually very glossy, with high production values, considering. The Brigton "Source" has been going as long as I can remember here - 9 years... We such a young population and a massive night life so that we can support these sorts of ventures... most of the magazines revolve around going out as listings and reviews and hence get lots of advertising from bars, clubs, pubs, different club nights, specific gigs and obviously local shops.

  Was this not always a con?

  I thought voicemail was more to do with establishing a connection whether the call was to be received or not, so that a connection charge can still be taken from the caller.
