   These two puff balls seem to not appear very often but when they do they manage to take exactly three panels to give a better explanation of things that the people who actually make the laws. Perhaps these two could be convinced to run for political offices?

   Um... I can't agree with this comic.

   I don't think the protection is from other lawyers, but from people who'll use them because they're upset to see their Creative Commons license not being used as they want it to be.

    (Yes, I know there are some genuine good lawyers out there, but at some points you have to wonder if even they are being caught up in the system.)

    No, it's definitely the lawyers. The rights holders may come in shouting "I'm angry, I want retribution!" but the lawyers make the "let's sue their house off!" answer possible, along with recommending it.

    Lawyers are not the problem, they're the symptom.
    Our society has so many laws and regulations the only way to comply with them or defend yourself from them is to get a lawyer. Tell me why our lives can't be just a little bit simpler.

    because if everything were simple, then i would be too hard to control us. Wrap up everything as complicated as possible and they can change it to suit their needs. Believe me, the K.I.S.S. method was abandoned a long time ago.

    Yes, the good lawyers are caught up...don't blame lawyers in general, blame those who write bad laws. If we only had properly balanced IP laws, trust me, the bad lawyers would move on to more lucrative ventures.

    No, the LAWS make it possible. The lawyer has a DUTY to inform his client of those options. A duty imposed on the lawyer by the LAW. The client has to be the one to choose that path (though some lawyers will push more than they are required to push, and that might make them a bad lawyer)
    
    I am not defending these lawsuits, but we need to spread the blame around

    Lawyers do not make Laws, lawyers work with the laws at hand for the benefit of their clients.
    
    The laws are created and enacted by Government representing the YOU.
    
    Most lawyers I know (including myself though I do not practice) are annoyed with laws that have been enacted in the last 15yrs or so mainly because they are ambiguous, inequitable, and extremely vague.
    
    As an AC said above, a lawyer has a professional and ethical DUTY to inform a client of the current laws, though the lawyer also must inform a client of any ramifications that could occur too, as well as the lawyers DUTY to the court for such things as frivolous or vexatious suits.
    
    That being said.. I did actually Laugh and do agree to an extent with Nina's cartoon.
